This original Avengers: Endgame title was eventually scrapped (and it's due to obvious creative reasons)

Avengers: Endgame made quite a splash upon its release, bringing Marvel fans of all ages to the cinema halls to enjoy its adrenaline-filled action spectacle. It has proven to be a sensation for Marvel fans, who still have strong reactions to this movie. Some people within this fandom also prefer Infinity War over this movie. Still, Endgame holds a special place in their hearts since it pulled massive crowds to theaters.

In many ways, it proved to be an 'Endgame' for this blockbuster franchise. For starters, let's state the obvious. The big fight in this movie was a long time coming, with nearly every other MCU movie leading up to it. That's why the studio slowly built the characters of Tony Stark and Steve Rogers, among others, as worthy of leading the baton. It also showed Tom Holland's Peter Parker with enough innocence that he would gravitate toward Tony as his father figure.

The other characters brought their own strengths and weaknesses to the whole mix and turned it into an exciting affair. So, whether people loved or hated it, it must have felt like the "end of an era" to them. As a result, it's surprising that the movie was not always referred to as Avengers: Endgame.

Avengers: Endgame was once supposed to be called Avengers: Infinity War Part 2

Some reports suggest that Avengers: Endgame was once called Avengers: Infinity War Part 2, and it is hardly a surprise why. Endgame continued the narrative that was introduced in Infinity War. It showed all these heroes returning to the battlefield for a fight to save the world from Thanos. However, it was also about them mourning the loss of everyone they lost throughout Infinity War. Although the fight must have been fun to experience, it was cathartic for these heroes, who had lost in the battle in the war related to the infinity stones.

For all these reasons, Avengers: Endgame could very well have been called Infinity War Part 2, and it would have technically made sense. After all, it was the second war they participated in that revolved around those precious stones. So, keeping the continuation of this story in mind, it was once just dubbed as the sequel to the 2018 flick. However, the change happened likely because of the change in its release dates. Avengers: Endgame was released later than the initial plans, which led to some creative changes in the strategy for the subtitle.

Eventually, it received a title that many would find fitting in the context of everything that happens in the movie and everything that it represents for the MCU. It also did great business for the studio, which prompted them to continue working in the same vein. If there was no Endgame, there would not have been any discussions about the post-Avengers blues. That's why Thunderbolts*, later rephrased as the New Avengers, gave the MCU fans that "old Marvel feeling."

So, while the title doesn't directly affect how the movie is or isn't, it represents what the movie means in a broader context of the MCU.
