The latest trailer for Charlize Theron and Uma Thurman, starrer The Old Guard 2 is finally out, and the visuals promise a thrilling ride.
Set to premiere this July, the trailer shows a thrilling confrontation between Theron’s Andy and Thurman’s antagonist, Discord. Directed by Victoria Mahoney, this sequel continues the saga of immortal warriors facing unprecedented challenges, as seen previously in The Old Guard.
Needless to say, Theron is a favorite when it comes to action thrillers, and The Old Guard 2 is no different. The trailer features bloody confrontations and swordplay as she faces off against Thurman's Discord.
A few old cast members will be returning while some newcomers, including Uma Thurman as Discord and Henry Golding as Tuah, will also join the cast.
Directed by Victoria Mahoney, the film is written by Greg Rucka, the original author of the 2017 graphic novel, alongside Sarah L. Walker. Mahoney. Filming for The Old Guard 2 wrapped up in 2024, which was shot in Italy and the UK from 2022.
Watching Theron's chemistry with Thurman would certainly be an exciting ride, as both actresses are well known for their acting prowess in the field of action.
What is The Old Guard about?
The Old Guard is a 2020 Netflix action-fantasy film directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood and is adapted from the graphic novel by Greg Rucka and Leandro Fernández. The novel is about a band of immortal fighters who've been secretly defending humanity for generations.
Andy, played by Charlize Theron, leads the team, which, in addition to her, includes Booker (Matthias Schoenaerts), Nicky (Luca Marinelli), and Joe (Marwan Kenzari). They can heal from any injury, and they have lived for hundreds of years, completing missions that tend to alter history.
The movie begins with the team completing a mission, which turns out to be a trap, resulting in them getting exposed to a pharmaceutical company that wants to capture and study them, and ultimately exploit their powers. At the same time, a new immortal named Nile, played by KiKi Layne, discovers that she's immortal.
Andy finds her and brings her into the team. Another key member is Quynh, an immortal who was put to punishment as she was accused of witchcraft. After years of trying to locate her, she was not found, leading Andy to feel guilty for her capture, as she was the one who found Quynh.
As the team tries to stay free, they experience betrayal from one of their own, and Andy has a realization that she may be losing her immortality. While in the end the team is able to defeat the villain, they do end up losing a key member. The movie ends with a significant twist; the return of Quynh, who is shown to have been alive all this while.
