Marty Supreme, the upcoming sports comedy drama starring Timothée Chalamet, has released its first trailer. Co-written and directed by Josh Safdie, the film is scheduled to be released this Christmas.

The trailer tells us a lot while still keeping the core story of the film under wraps. The song that plays in the trailer's background is Forever Young by Alphaville. The film will portray the life and career of Marty Mauser, who is loosely based on the famous American table tennis player, Marty Reisman.

What's in the Marty Supreme Trailer?

The trailer opens to an interesting conversation between Marty (played by Timothée Chalamet) and a character played by Gwyneth Paltrow. Marty is in a hotel's royal suite, and had earlier seen Paltrow's character in the lobby. He decides to call her in her hotel room, and their conversation is our first introduction to the world of Marty Supreme.

After Marty makes the call and Paltrow's character picks it, he introduces himself and says he saw her in the hotel lobby the day before. Paltrow's character is understandably taken aback, and Marty, in an attempt to charm her, says that he had never talked to a movie star and that he was a kind of performer as well.

Paltrow's character doesn't know who Marty is, and when he asks her if she doesn't believe him, she is flustered, which he is very quick to detect. To make sure she knows who he is, Marty tells her to look at that day's Daily Mail, where she sees his picture.

The first part of the trailer tells us how Marty and Paltrow's character were initially introduced. The names of many characters of the film are yet to be revealed, including Gwyneth Paltrow's, but now we know that she is an actress, and as Paltrow told Vanity Fair in March 2025, her character is:

"This woman who is married to someone who is in the Ping-Pong mafia, as it were."

The trailer suggests that Marty is a charming man who knows how to converse smoothly, whether with a woman or in a professional setting.

Marty Supreme will focus on both Marty's professional and personal life, including his sacrifices and achievements. The next thing we see in the trailer is Marty telling Odessa A'zion's character:

"I have a purpose, and if you think that's some kind of blessing, it's not. It means I have an obligation to see a very specific thing through and with that obligation, comes sacrifice."

A'zion's character will be the other romantic interest of Marty, other than Paltrow's character, as the trailer shows a short clip of the two kissing. We also see a short clip of a vulnerable moment between A'zion's character and Marty as she offers him help if he needs it.

The trailer also gives us a sneak peek at Marty's determination and faith in his dream, as he tells Kevin O'Leary's character that, while it might be hard to believe, table tennis is a popular game in other countries, and that it is worth all the hard work and investment.

The Marty Supreme trailer gives us a short look at the unfortunate side of a sportsperson's life as Marty yells in frustration when he thinks something unacceptable is being done to him. This scene is accompanied by Kevin O'Leary's character saying:

"I'm not trying to control you Marty, but I don't think you understand the stakes. You have no power here."

It shows that despite how much success and money a professional brings to a sport, they are often rendered powerless when it comes to making decisions about their own lives of careers.

Lastly, the trailer confirms how big Mary Mauser's dream is through what he says when someone asks him what he would do if his dream doesn't come true. To that, Marty responds:

"That doesn't even enter my conciousnesses."

Marty Supreme is written and produced by Ronald Bronstein and John Safdie, and Safdie has also directed the film. Other producers include Eli Bush, Anthony Katagas, and Timothée Chalamet. Central Pictures, IPR.VC and A24 are the production companies behind the film.

Marty Supreme stars Timothée Chalamet, Gwyneth Paltrow, Odessa A'zion, Kevin O'Leary, Tyler Okonma, Abel Ferrara, Fran Drescher, Penn Jillette, Sandra Bernhard, Spenser Granese, and Philippe Petit. Marty Supreme will be released in theatres on December 25, 2025.
