Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning is a film in the action spy genre, and it's slated to be released theatrically on May 23, 2025. The eighth film in the franchise is a direct sequel to Dead Reckoning Part One, which came out in 2023. Here's the official synopsis:
"Ethan Hunt and the IMF team continue their search for the terrifying AI known as the Entity — which has infiltrated intelligence networks all over the globe — with the world’s governments and a mysterious ghost from Ethan’s past on their trail. Joined by new allies and armed with the means to shut the Entity down for good, Hunt is in a race against time to prevent the world as we know it from changing forever."

Tom Cruise has pulled off another stunt in Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning
Recently, the director of Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning, Christopher McQuarrie, spoke to GQ. In it, McQuarrie spoke about a stunt performed by Tom Cruise where the latter wing-walks on a flying plane and it's featured in the trailer. For that, the duo met with some professionals to orchestrate the stunt. He said,
"They said, ‘What do you want to do?’ And Tom said, ‘I want to be between the wings of the plane holding on to the tension wires, and I want to be in zero G between the wings.’ And wing walkers who do this for living said, ‘That will never happen. You can never do that.’ And Tom said, ‘All right, well, thank you very much for your time.’"
Cruise has been portraying IMF agent Ethan Hunt for several years, and he has performed many stunts in the franchise. It was about time that he would indeed do the impossible and push the limits of what he could do physically.
Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning is written by Christopher McQuarrie and Erik Jendresen; Cruise and McQuarrie are also the producers. The film's budget is somewhere around $300-400 million, making it one of the costliest films of all time. It was screened at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, and it will be released theatrically by Paramount Pictures on May 23, 2025.

“I absolutely feel relief on this one. You’ve heard us say it before with every Mission: This is the most complicated thing we’ve ever done; this is the most dangerous thing we’ve ever done; it’s the most ambitious thing we’ve ever done. It’s always true. This is the first time when we did that twice in one movie. The submarine sequence represents something, and the aerial scene represents something, that each, in their own way, is the most complicated, most difficult thing that we’ve done.”
