The God of Mischief isn’t done rewriting fate just yet. After the heartbreakingly cosmic finale of Loki season 2, many believed Tom Hiddleston’s iconic trickster had taken his final bow, cradling timelines like threads in a loom, alone at the edge of forever. But in the ever-shifting multiverse of the MCU, nothing ends... not really.

Hiddleston is officially returning as Loki in Avengers: Doomsday, Marvel’s colossal Phase 6 crossover, scheduled to release in 2026. Speaking about his unexpected comeback, Hiddleston admitted he truly believed his time in the MCU had ended, even telling fans as much, not knowing the next chapter was already being quietly written behind the curtain.

Talking about his return to the MCU in the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast, Hiddleston opened up about his uncertain future in the MCU as he said,

“I didn’t know then, I didn’t know what the plan was. I’m trying to think how long I’ve known. It’s kind of [like] various periods of time have merged into one. But it’s very exciting.”

Details about Loki’s arc remain locked tighter than in the TVA vault, but Hiddleston teased that his character is set to evolve once again. Opening up on what turn Loki will take in Avengers: Doomsday, the actor said,

Yes! I do know some things... I know some things. It's an extraordinary privilege to still be on the team and [that] there [are] more stories to tell, and you know this, but I feel like the character has grown as I've grown. It's genuinely an honor to still be in the squad.

Loki has always danced on the edge of chaos and redemption, and now, in Avengers: Doomsday, he may be holding the key to the MCU’s survival. After literally becoming the God of Stories in Loki season 2, cradling the multiverse in his hands, his next steps are as unpredictable as they are powerful. He’s no longer just the trickster or the villain, he’s a cosmic force with infinite knowledge and a heartbreaking sense of responsibility.

In Doomsday, Loki could be the multiverse’s last line of defense or its undoing. With Doctor Doom stepping into the picture, Loki may find himself face to face with a rival intellect and a darker mirror of his own ambition. Could he be the one to outwit Doom, not with might, but with myth? Could he rewrite the very fabric of reality once again?

His relationship with Thor may also come full circle. With Chris Hemsworth returning, there’s potential for an emotional reunion that breaks and heals in equal measure, gods learning to forgive, not just fight.

Avengers: Doomsday will be in theaters on December 18, 2026.
