Christina Applegate's movies have mostly been comedies that you could enjoy almost any time.

It's the kind of movie you would want to tune in to when you hang out with your friends. Whether it's the raunchy humor from Bad Moms or the sharp satire from Anchorman, Applegate fits right into any role to make sure you leave the project with plenty of laughs.

With a long career through shows like Up All Night, Samantha Who?, Jesse, or Married...with Children, she has honed her comedic skills over time. It also led her to her recent Emmy-nominated turn in Liz Feldman's dark comedy, Dead to Me, where she co-starred with Linda Cardellini. That doesn't mean she hasn't starred in any solid movie.

Here is a list of five Christina Applegate movies that will surely keep you glued to your seats.

5. Going the Distance (2010)

Going the Distance is a rom-com about two people trying to make their long-distance relationship work. Drew Barrymore and Justin Long play the guy and the gal at its centre, but Christina Applegate makes sure that you remember the overprotective sister as the credits start rolling.

She plays Corinne, a married woman, who is concerned that Erin's (Barrymore) boyfriend (Long) doesn't cheat on her as he moves to another town. Even through Corrine's straight-faced jabs, Applegate ensures you see her for who she is: a woman who doesn't want her sister to suffer.

The film is available to rent on Apple TV and Amazon Video.

4. Youth in Oregon (2016)

Christina Applegate may be known for her comedic talent, but she has also left a mark with her grounded, dramatic roles. The Netflix series, Dead to Me, is a clear example of that, where she plays a grieving wife. Even before that, she dug deeper into this painful topic through her work in Youth in Oregon.

The movie stars her as a woman trying to stop her 80-something-old father from giving up on his love for life. It's because of her that we realize how much it would hurt to find hope even if someone you love starts losing it.

The movie is available to stream on Prime Video.

3. The Sweetest Thing (2002)

The Sweetest Thing is about a successful interior designer trying to get out of the rut of her love life. She finally decides to be with a man, only to realize that he has moved away. So, she goes on a trip to meet him. That's where her friend, Courtney (Applegate), helps her out.

She joins her on this adventure and makes sure she doesn't feel left out or stranded. Applegate's solid comic timing plays a big role in why this ends up being fun and charming.

The film is available to stream on Netflix.

2. Bad Moms (2016)

There's a reason why Bad Moms is often seen as one of the best Christina Applegate movies. It's her, starring alongside Kathryn Hahn, Kristen Bell, and Mila Kunis, who are some of the sharpest comics from their generation. It would be difficult to make it anything but funny.

Applegate doesn't play one of the three overworked mothers at the front and centre, but her sarcastic jabs as the PTA leader Gwendolyn James are some of the film's highlights. If you need some out-there, R-rated humor, this might be your cup of tea.

The movie is available to stream on Fubo TV.

1. Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy (2004)

Adam McKay's Anchorman played a major role in the comedy scene from the 2000s. It got so popular that people still remember its dialogues and quote them almost like inside jokes. A lot of its credit goes to Will Ferrell's pitch-perfect turn as the anchorman, Ron Burgundy. Still, without Steve Carell or Christina Applegate, it wouldn't have been nearly as hilarious.

Applegate plays Veronica Corningstone, who goes from being Ron's colleague and his love interest to his adversary. You need someone as talented as Applegate to make it work.

The film is streaming on Paramount+. It will soon be leaving the Netflix catalogue, as per JustWatch.
