Starting off strong with the year's most popular horror film, Ryan Coogler's Sinners was a spooky yet thoughtful watch about a juke club intruded by vampires, who turn the entire town upside down. Starring Michael B. Jordan in dual roles, the film also stars Hailee Steinfield and newcomer Miles Caton. After a successful theatrical run, the film is now circling the awards season as well.

The horror in Sinners is more than just spooky. It also explores socio-political issues and Jordan shines through in both his roles. If your goal is a little less spooky and more on the experience of a great film, Sinners is perfect for your Halloween watch.

The Conjuring: Last Rites brings the Warrens back together again, as they return from retirement to get involved in a new family's case, one that has deep ties to their own lives and their daughter Judy.

Annabelle is there, and new antagonists are there with a brand new spooky object that haunts the two families. If you're looking to relive your favorite horror franchise this Halloween, The Conjuring: Last Rites should definitely be your pick!

Zach Cregger's Weapons became the year's unexpected hit, starring Julia Garner and Josh Brolin in lead roles as two adults, investigating a curiously creepy case in their town. On one specific night, all the children, except for one, Alex, willingly got up and ran towards one exact spot, and were never to be found again. Brolin plays the role of the father of one of the kids while Garner is their teacher. Together they uncover deeper mysteries inside Alex's house and a witch who has been creating chaos in the town.

The film was a success, and is now moving forward with a prequel. If your go-to is films with a more humane and realistic kind of horror, Weapon should definitely be your choice this Halloween.

The Woman in the Yard is a psychological horror film coming from Jaume Collet-Serra, and instead of ghost and jump scares, the film is about a mother living with her two children after losing her husband when a mysterious woman starts haunting their yard. Day by day she comes closer, bringing doom to the family. What happens in the ending will truly shock you, as the horror becomes psychological and takes the shape of fear.

If you're into horror films that tackle human emotions and are less about ghosts and spirits and more about the human horror around us, The Woman in the Yard is definitely your pick for this Halloween.

Good Boy

The year's most innovative horror film came from Ben Leonberg, with a dog as the lead who sees ghosts while his owner is suffering from a fatal disease. The film won over audiences worldwide, particularly because of the canine superstar and the unique idea of a horror film from the perspective of a dog, Indy. Indy's acting has earned widespread acclaim, with the film being noted for it's deeper themes and what the horror actually means.

One of the best horror films of 2025, Good Boy undoubtedly deserves to be on your watch list, if not for anything else but Indy!
