Tron: Ares cast and character guide

If you have watched the first two films already, then you are well aware of what's going on in Tron: Ares, the Joachim Rønning-directed third film in the Tron franchise, and its characters. If you haven't watched it, you can still understand it, as it is a standalone sequel.

But don't stress too much about it. We are here to introduce the major characters, so you can watch the film with a little more understanding if you have already booked your seats in theaters for tomorrow.

The film stars Jared Leto, Evan Peters, Greta Lee, and others. While it's an almost entirely new cast, there's also a familiar face in it, which we will discuss as the last character on this list.

There were some plans to add an AI-generated character in the film, but those were scrapped.

1) Jared Leto as Ares

Jared Leto will play the titular Ares in the upcoming movie, who will start as an antagonist created by Julian Dillinger.

Leto is known for his method acting, and you can see some of his best performances in movies like Dallas Buyers Club (2013), Fight Club (1999), Requiem for a Dream (2000), and more.

2) Jodie Turner-Smith as Athena

Initially in Tron: Ares, Jared Leto's character will be accompanied by Athena, portrayed by Jodie Turner-Smith. However, we can't say if she will end up developing free will and joining the good side.

She recently had a voice role in A Big Bold Beautiful Journey, which was a critical and commercial failure. Her other performances are featured in Murder Mystery 2 (2023), The Independent (2022), After Yang (2021), and more.

3) Evan Peters as Julian Dillinger

Evan Peters plays the main antagonist and the creator of the Ares program and CEO of Dillinger Systems, Julian Dillinger, in Tron: Ares. He is the son of Edward Dillinger Jr., played by Cillian Murphy in Tron: Legacy, and the grandson of Edward Dillinger, the original antagonist in Tron, played by David Warner.

Unlike his savior superhero persona of the fast-moving Pietro Maximoff, he will be more of a supervillain. This time, it's his mind that's fast. His other films include The Good Doctor (2011), Kick-Ass (2010), and more.

4) Greta Lee as Eve Kim

Greta Lee will play Dillinger's competition, Eve Kim, in Tron: Ares, who is currently the CEO of ENCOM. Both organizations are after this Kevin Flynn's Permanence Code. However, her plan isn't evil like Julian's.

The actress has lent her voice in both the Spider-Verse films and will also appear in A House of Dynamite, which is also releasing tomorrow.

5) Jeff Bridges as Kevin Flynn

As we promised, here is the final major character who will appear in this Tron: Ares list. Jeff Bridges, the main man of the franchise, will return to the Grid as Kevin Flynn.

The actor is known for his work in The Big Lebowski (1998), Crazy Heart (2009), and even in Iron Man (2008).
