The latest Michael Jai White movie, Trouble Man, where he also plays the lead man, is all about business. Some people kidnap a singer named Jahari (La La Anthony). They have a plan to kill her to execute their plan to get some big bucks from a record owner.

It was released on August 1, 2025, in theaters and for video-on-demand but also had a premiere at the American Black Film Festival on June 12, 2025. As of now, it doesn't have enough reviews to get a Rotten Tomatoes score, but its IMDb rating shows 4.3 stars out of 10. Besides Michael Jai White, Method Man, Mike Epps, and Orlando Jones are in the film.

The film's story is pretty straightforward, but the characters have made a mess in there, which gives us something to enjoy for a few moments.

La La Anthony plays Jahari in Trouble Man and is at the center of the tension (but not attention) throughout the movie. She is a singer who has signed a contract with a record label called Swerve City Records, which Orlando Jones' Branes Holden owns.

Holden is a big name and has some big associations in the industry and outside who have invested in his business. One of them is Levy Tran's Yuen Song, who is a Chinese organized crime boss in the city.

Jaxen, played by Michael Jai White, is a former cop turned security head of a club named Club Bank. He also does odd jobs, such as pulling people out of tight situations. Holden hires him because Jahari has gone missing.

Although he does that in style as Jaxen hooks up with his former flame, Gina (Gillian White), in the night and is left in his bed, only to be found by a couple of hitmen who are there to take him to Holden. Though he hits them himself, he then pays a visit to Holden.

He is hired by the record owner to find his precious singer, Jahari, who is kidnapped unexpectedly, for fifty grand, of which he takes 25k upfront and the rest after the job is finished.

Why was Jahari kidnapped?

As Jaxen begins his pursuit of Jahari in Trouble Man, he first meets her boyfriend, Money, played by the rapper Method Man. He takes Jaxen to the place they last met together but finds it trashed.

As the story develops, it turns out that Holden's criminal investor, Song, has kidnapped Jahari. She does that because he owes her money, and now she plans to kill the talented singer so her music will blow up, and hence the money will rain and she will get her money back.

Did Jahari die?

Thankfully, with a carefully planned strategy, Jaxen and Money can save Jahari. They visit a warehouse where she is kept and gas it. Then his crew enters disguised as workers to fix the gas, and everybody enters the premises, pulling Jahari out. Easy in and out.
