Tyler Perry is again looking to climb a streaming chart after Duplicity did that on Prime Video. This time, he is looking to do that with Straw on Netflix. He is directing, writing, and co-producing it with Taraji P. Henson, Sherri Shepherd, Teyana Taylor, and more set to star.
The film will arrive on the streaming platform next month. Perry discussed the movie's lead character, Janiyah, whom Taraji is playing, with Netflix and said,
"She’s just trying to survive, just trying to be a great mother to her daughter, and then the circumstances in her life cause her to be in this situation."
First-look photos, ten of them, are available, and fans can check them out on Netflix's Tudum. A trailer of Straw was released on YouTube on May 14, 2025, which holds 818k views as of this writing. We will now see some more details before it finally arrives.

The Straw trailer begins with a woman walking into a bank. She looks depressed, and she appears to be in dire need of money. Maybe that's why she is robbing the bank. Though she "didn't mean to do this."
Later, she reveals to the police that her little daughter, whom she carries in a flashback in a hospital, needs medicine. A man then jumps on her, and his fate is left unknown. Only the full movie can tell if the mother inadvertently pulled the trigger or not.
