Unknown Number: The High School Catfish is a documentary film that premiered on Netflix on August 29, 2025. Directed by Skye Borgman, the film is based on a teenage girl named Lauryn Licari, who was receiving threatening messages on her phone for nearly two years. At one point, she was receiving around 40-50 messages per day. The official synopsis reads,
A teenage girl and her boyfriend become the targets of relentless harassment from an anonymous phone number. As authorities dig deeper, they uncover a secret that challenges everything they originally believed about the case.
An important character in the documentary is Khloe Wilson. Let's find out what happened to her and where she is now.
Unknown Number: The High School Catfish - What happened to Khloe Wilson?
Unknown Number: The High School Catfish focuses on Lauryn Licari and her boyfriend, Owen McKenny. In 2020, when they were teens, Lauryn started receiving threatening messages on her phone. These messages noted that Owen was cheating on her and that he did not like her. The sender also said that she liked them more than Lauryn.
The authorities intervened in the case, and they initially suspected that a girl named Khloe Wilson was behind these messages. Khloe grew up in Beal City and studied at Beal City High School. She was also an active basketball and volleyball player.
She did not share a good rapport with Lauryn, hence fingers were pointed at her. Wilson was friends with Owen but not with Lauryn and others. Her name got dragged after the cops tracked one of the messages to a basketball game. This was in line with her match results as well.
One of the numbers was traced to Florida, where Wilson had gone for a trip with her parents, which deepened the suspicion. Craig Wilson, her father, who was also a cop, asked her to give her phone for forensic testing. The results came, and there was no link between her and those messages.
In Unknown Number: The High School Catfish, we see that the cops found out the sender was using a mobile app that mimicked actual phone numbers. This made things harder for them to track it down.
In 2022, the FBI eventually found that Lauryn's mother, Kendra, was the person responsible for those messages. In Unknown Number: The High School Catfish, Wilson's father, Craig, said:
"Khloe missed a whole godd--- year of what should have been some of the best memories of her life. [It was] a whole year of people pointing the finger at her [and] being grilled by her parents."
In May 2025, Khloe graduated from high school. In April 2023, she was also one of the attendees of Kendra's sentencing. She was a sports enthusiast and wanted to pursue volleyball at Montcalm Community College at the end of 2024. However, her name wasn't mentioned in the selection roster.
Unknown Number: The High School Catfish is currently streaming on Netflix.
