Upcoming action sequel Sisu: Road to Revenge bags the perfect Rotten Tomatoes score shortly after Fantastic Fest premiere

The sequel to the Finnish-English film Sisu, Sisu: Road to Revenge, recently had a premiere at the Fantastic Fest. The film had a fate similar to the first letter of the fest and is 100% fresh at the review aggregator platform Rotten Tomatoes based on 14 reviews at the time of writing.

As of now, it surpasses the first film, which is also fresh with a 94% Rotten Tomatoes score, but based on 185 reviews. When more reviews of the sequel land following the release, the sequel's score is bound to go down a bit too.

For the movie, Jorma Tommila reprises the role of the story's main protagonist from the last film, Aatami Korpi, also addressed as "the man who refuses to die." While he remains the returning face, Stephen Lang and Richard Brake have joined the cast too.

Currently, it is set for a release in Finland on October 22, 2025, and it will be released theatrically in the USA on November 21.

What did the critics say about Sisu: Road to Revenge?

Up until now, all the critics have liked the film and described it as "raucous," "spectacularly gory," "action-packed thrill ride," and more.

IGN's Matt Donato writes,

"Sisu: Road to Revenge offers a ludicrous and punishing take on the same fantastic action-forward indulgence as its predecessor, like a post-WWII blend of Mad Max: Fury Road and a Fast & Furious sequel."

Bloody Disgusting's Meagan Navarro seems to have enjoyed it a lot, and said in her review that,

"Helander channels George Miller in his raucous Mad Max-like road thriller that gives a big, bloody middle finger to reality in favor of crowd-pleasing action carnage."

Perhaps the most accurate review comes from RogerEbert.com's Brian Tallerico, who writes in his review,

"'Road to Revenge’ reimagines everything that worked about ‘Sisu,' but it does what an action sequel should do and builds on it instead of just repeating the same barely-controlled chaos. This movie rules."

This initial critical reception might also work in favor of the film when it comes to its box office numbers. But we have to wait until it finally hits the big screen.

What is Sisu: Road to Revenge about?

Sisu: Road to Revenge continues the story from the first film. Our man, 'who refuses to die,' returns to his family home to dismantle it. He wants to build it again, but somewhere else.

However, his return attracts the interest of his enemy, Igor Draganov, the one who killed his family. And now Igor wants to kill Aatami Korpi at any cost.

Viewers might like the movie if they liked Mad Max: Fury Road, given that it has been compared to the Tom Hardy-led blockbuster. Moreover, it is also being labeled as the best sequel since the fourth John Wick film.
