The Babygirl and Triangle of Sadness actor Harris Dickinson recently debuted as a director and made Urchin, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and won a couple of awards. The film now has a release date. It is scheduled to hit the big screens on October 10, 2025, per The Hollywood Reporter.

Young Dickinson's debut directorial effort has alreay won over the critics. There are 29 reviews about the movie on Rotten Tomatoes, and the aggregate score is 97% as of this writing. Elle's Tomris Laffly writes in her review:

"Harris Dickinson might be the most exciting new auteur since the Safdie Brothers. The future of British social realism looks promising thanks to his debut - knows his Ken Loach and Mike Leigh inside and out but doesn’t carbon-copy what came before."

Urchin is about a person stuck in a cycle of self-destruction. Its synopsis, via Rotten Tomatoes, reads,

"Mike, a rough sleeper in London, is trapped in a cycle of self-destruction as he attempts to turn his life around. Raw and absurd, it's a story about the strange patterns that keep pulling us back."

The cast of the film, listed on IMDb, is:

  • Diane Axford as Lynne
  • Frank Dillane as Mike
  • Murat Erkek as a shop owner
  • Moe Hashim as Diego
  • Okezie Morro as Simon
  • Megan Northam as Andrea
  • Natasha Jean Sparkes as Lisa
  • Oriana White as Rachel

Karyna Khymchuk, Shonagh Marie, and Amr Waked also feature in the film, in yet-undisclosed roles.

While you already got a gist of the film from its synopsis, the underlying text pertains to mental health, as Harris Dickinson told Dazed magazine in an interview when the film's name was still to be finalized. He said,

"It’s about the people that fall between the cracks. It’s about mental health and about the ways in which the system fails people in certain ways."

With rave reviews, the film promises to be one of the best directorial debuts in Hollywood this year. The film needs to impress the audience as well, and its score on Rotten Tomatoes could go down slightly when more reviews are added.

Dickinson's s*xy performance in Babygirl might live on in our minds for years, but acting wasn't his first love. The 29-year-old actor wanted to be a director. He revealed his goal in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

“It’s always going to be an adjustment for people who have seen me as an actor and know me as an actor, but for me, that’s been my goal,” he said.

With Urchin, Dickinson can finally say he has realized his dream. He already has another idea for his next directorial project, but there are no details about it.
