Looks like Fast and Furious 11 will finally call it a day for the long-running franchise, which recently saw names like John Cena and Jason Momoa joining this ride. But the biggest surprise could be Brian O'Conner, the lead character that the late Paul Walker played. Furious 7 (2015) was still in the middle of filming when the news of his death arrived in 2013.

Vin Diesel, who plays another key character, Dominic Toretto, was at a car enthusiast event, as per Deadline, where he told the crowd regarding the upcoming film that:

"The studio said to me, ‘Vin, can we please have the finale of ‘Fast and Furious’ [in] April 2027? I said, ‘Under three conditions.’ First, is to bring the franchise back to L.A.! The second thing was to return to the car culture, to the street racing! The third thing was reuniting Dom and Brian O’Conner."

The first installment in the franchise, The Fast and the Furious (2001), was set in Los Angeles, where Don and Brian first met but were working on opposite sides. While Dom has been a notorious street racer, Brian was introduced as a cop who goes undercover as part of an investigation. This is where their friendship begins and opens up new tracks for sequels.

Fast and Furious 11 should have a different name

As of now, Fast and Furious 11 is simply called Fast X: Part 2. However, if the potential finale of the franchise is returning to its roots, then they need to look for a different name, as it is unlikely to be a continuation of the events of Fast X (2023).

Han Lue (Sung Kang), Gisele Yashar (Gal Gadot), and Letty Ortiz (Michelle Rodriguez) have already returned to the franchise after beating their respective deaths in the past films, which also gives the filmmakers a proper opportunity to bring not just Brian O'Conner but all the members of the crew in a Fast and Furious 11 see-off.

Bringing Brian O'Conner will be a challenge for them, but they have three options to do this. They can use archival footage or bring some never-before-seen scenes that never made it to any of the movies, if there are any. Another option would obviously be recruiting a new face for the character. If that is also out of the question, then they can use CGI like they did in Furious 7 to end the film.

The last option is likely to be the most challenging, as Walker's brothers, Cody and Caleb, were there to finish the film's remaining scenes. It wasn't for the entire film, but given it can be time-consuming, this won't be the right option to pick for the entirety of Fast and Furious 11's filming.

To this date, Furious 7, the last film Walker appeared in, is the highest-grossing film in the franchise, earning $1.5 billion at the global box office. As of this writing, it is the 13th highest-grossing film of all time. The Fate of the Furious, its sequel, is the only film after that which managed to break the $1 billion barrier.

Fast & Furious 11 is currently scheduled for release in April 2027.
