Viral rumor surrounding Danny Trejo's death debunked

Popular American actor and voice actor Danny Trejo, known for his role as Isador "Machete" Cortez in the Spy Kids franchise, has addressed the rumors of his death. On Sunday, September 7, 2025, the 81-year-old actor took to his official Instagram to debunk the rumors of his passing.

“Thank you all for your concern, but I am very much alive. Someone is spreading fake news.”

While the origin of the fake news remains unknown, fans of the actor began to circulate memorial posts all over social media. The fake news was given even more credibility when co-actor John Leguizamo, reshared Danny’s memorial post on his Instagram story with the caption "R.i.p" in bold red print with his full name, Danny Trejo Jerónimo and his supposed year of birth to death, 1944-2025.

Fans of the actor have expressed their relief over his being alive.

“Thank you, I knew you wouldn't mess up my morning coffee. I even wrote a tribute. Im so happy your alive,” @debbijaine820 commented.
“I literally had to Google it, because I knew wouldn't have missed news like that, the post I saw was from early August,” @_md_mld_ stated
“Thank God was a lie, @jonhLegggizamo I read it and began checking your pages, and Google and news outlets, there was no more mention but they saw dout. Gracias a Dios Ud esta bien,” @vicky_brictson added.

Who is Danny Trejo?

Danny Trejo had his first film debut in the 1980s when he landed the role in the 1985 film Runaway Train. Since then, he has featured in movies like Desperado, Heat, Con Air, From Dusk Till Dawn, The Replacement Killers, Once Upon A Time In Mexico, and Reindeer Games.

Danny Trejo has also voices characters in animations. The celebrity has worked as a voice actor for years now. Some of his voice acting works include Stocks, Minions, Scum, Far Cry 6: Danny and Dani vs Everybody, Call of Duty, and Fallout: New Vegas.

Danny was married four times, all leading up to a divorce. He has three children: Danny, Gilbert, and Danielle.

Recently, while speaking with TMZ, Danny Trejo discussed how he was coping with the death of a co-star, Val Kilmer:

“Val was one of the A-List actors in Hollywood, it's top of the line. The minute you walked on set, whether you were an A-List player or not, he immediately made you feel like, 'Hey what's up!' He didn't care whether you came out of Strasberg or [not]...You were there, you're an actor, that means you're part of the crew,” he said in an interview with TMZ.
