Detective Benoit Blanc, played by Daniel Craig, is returning once again for the investigation of a murder that shakes the entire town to its core. On the surface, it looks seemingly impossible that Monsignor Jefferson Wicks, played by Josh Brolin, delivers a passionate sermon to his churchgoers and then walks into a sealed concrete box. He is found dead half an hour later by his assistant priest, Jud Duplenticy (played by Josh O’Connor).

Detective Benoit Blanc must unravel the legend and mystery surrounding what he calls a “classic impossible crime.” He enlists the help of the local police chief, Geraldine Scott, played by Mila Kunis, and they try to solve the whodunit mystery with little to no clues or suspects.

The teaser for Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery reveals the possible ecclesiastical members of the church that Blanc and Connor’s Jud will be talking to about the murder. Connor’s Jud appears plain and above suspicion. However, a much darker, violent side of him hides right beneath the surface. Rian Johnson revealed that he was aiming to cast a group of people who, along with being brilliant actors, get along with each other well, as they would at a dinner party:

"We’ve been very lucky with each of these movies to have gathered some of my favorite actors on the planet, and that’s absolutely the case here. They’re also all lovely folks who get along, which is the dinner party aspect of it. When you’re making an ensemble movie like this, I think that’s key."

From the devout churchgoer Martha Delacroix, played by Glenn Close, to Andrew Scott’s author Lee Ross, the list of suspects is long and mysteriously unsuspecting. The list also includes groundskeeper Samson Holt, played by Thomas Haden Church; politician Cy Draven, played by Daryl McCormack; lawyer Vera Draven, played by Kerry Washington; concert cellist Simone Vivane, played by Cailee Spaeny; and the town doctor, Nat Sharp, played by Jeremy Renner.

Jeremy Renner is not new to the Knives Out franchise, even though this is his first time playing a proper role in Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery. He previously appeared in Glass Onion (the second film in the franchise). However, that appearance was brief—his picture was featured on top of a habanero chili pepper sauce label.

The film Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery has assembled a highly talented cast and will have a limited theatrical release on November 26, followed by streaming on Netflix starting December 12. However, the director, Johnson, urges his viewers to watch the film in the theatrical format to get the full experience.
