"The Movie Industry in America is DYING a very fast death," this is what Donald Trump, a businessman currently serving as the 47th president of the United States, thinks. In a shocking twist coming today, films produced outside the US are likely to see a 100% tariff imposed on them. This is what he wrote on his social Truth Social platform:

"Therefore, I am authorizing the Department of Commerce, and the United States Trade Representative, to immediately begin the process of instituting a 100% Tariff on any and all Movies coming into our Country that are produced in Foreign Lands. WE WANT MOVIES MADE IN AMERICA, AGAIN!"

California Gov. Gavin Newsom also happened to be caught in Trump's crosshairs among others, as the now-President of the US called him a "grossly incompetent governor that allowed that to happen." However, that doesn't appear to concern the governor's office, as one spokesperson there shrugged the statement off by calling it just another "distraction day" in Washington, D.C.

Which upcoming movies are likely to get affected by the president's order if enacted?

There's really a big bunch of potential big blockbusters that are coming out in the next couple or so years now. Thunderbolts was released just a couple of days ago, but that's in a safe horizon now. However, we have gotten a barrage of films that might be hit by Trump's decision.

Final Destination: Bloodlines is one movie coming out this month that was filmed in Vancouver, British Columbia. We began with this as one top executive in the industry said, 'Vancouver is over," as The Hollywood Reporter reports.

Then there's, of course, what's in a league of its own, Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning, which was produced on a $400 million budget. That film was shot in a number of locations outside the country, including Malta, South Africa, and Norway.

Next is, of course, the John Wick spin-off Ballerina, starring Ana de Armas, Ian McShane, Keanu Reeves, and more, which was principally shot in Prague. The production budget of the film is not known at the moment, but that's John Wick, and that decision may affect the fans’ decision to watch it in cinemas. It's going to be a huge blow.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is likely to get the heaviest blow from Trump's decision, as Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars are due in 2026 and 2027 and were shaping up to be the biggest events MCU fans have ever seen, maybe the biggest events ever in films.

When the last two Avengers films came out, they instantly joined the highest-grossing-movies club. Domestically, Infinity War (2018) made $678 million, while Endgame (2019) earned $858 million. Apart from Secret Wars and Doomsday, The Fantastic Four: First Steps and Spider-Man: Brand New Day are scheduled to release as a part of Phase Six too.

There's no detail on Brand New Day's filming locations; The Fantastic Four was shot in Buckinghamshire's Pinewood Studios.

What does Trump's order mean for moviegoers and filmmakers?

For moviegoers, that simply means whatever they were supposed to pay for a movie ticket, they will be paying just double that cost. For filmmakers, that threatens the earnings potential for their films, given that it may affect the number of filled seats in a theater.

Although it is not known for sure when the decision will be implemented, whenever it does, production of Hollywood films outside the US is likely to take a toll. If filmmakers want to stay profitable, they will be making films in the country, which will naturally up the production in the US.
