Jimmy Kimmel, the host, showed Don a picture that had him, Chuck Leavell, Dickey Betts, and Jimmy Carter, the former President of the United States. Looking at the picture, Johnson said,
''I don't remember that photo, but we were all stoned.''
He then quickly mentioned that he didn't mean that for the former president.
Don Johnson on smoking and gambling at the White House
On Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Johnson made some revelations, including candid stories, and the bond he shared with Jimmy Carter. During the conversation, Johnson admitted to being 'stoned' during a 1975 Allman Brothers concert, for Carter's campaign, after which he was invited to the White House.
Don then shared a funny story about gambling with President George H.W. Bush during a visit to Camp David. He said that he was invited to play golf with George Bush and that they had made small bets on each hole. He said that the bet amount would just be $18 to $20. This is what Johnson said in the interview:
''He wanted to gamble when we played golf out at Camp David. And so I took his money.''
He added,
''I'll tell you something else: He's a trash talker, and he ran into a buzzsaw because so am I.''
When asked about the bet money, he said,
''Eighteen or 20 bucks. But that's the best 18 or 20 bucks you'll ever get.''
Johnson then shared a light-hearted encounter he had with the NBA legend Dennis Johnson. He said that he was invited to the Boston Celtics' locker room by Larry Bird after a game, and that's where he met Dennis. Here is what he said about his encounter with Dennis and his wife:
''The coup de grâce is that when I'm leaving the arena, [Dennis] is in the tunnel with his wife, who is this tall," Don said, lifting his hand up to show Dennis' wife's small stature. "And I just had to stop there for a minute and go, 'Yeah, the math doesn't really work on this.''
Johnson then spoke about the popularity he enjoyed thanks to the role of Sonny Crockett in Miami Vice. He expressed gratitude for his role, as it elevated his career and left a mark on television history. Overall, the interview with Jimmy was filled with Johnson's personal anecdotes, funny stories, and nostalgia.
