Weapons is the second directorial horror film by Zach Creggar. He previously directed the 2022 horror flick, Barbarian, which was a critical and commercial success.

In a recent interview with Cinema Daily US, Creggar stated that he doesn't think of it as a horror film. He said:

"I know it’s being sold as a horror movie, and I’m totally okay with that. I don’t really think of it as a pure horror movie because to me, a horror movie lives or dies by whether it is or is not scary, and I think that even if Weapons wasn’t scary, I still think it would be a good movie, because it’s telling a compelling story."

He continued:

"I think the scares just sweeten the deal for me, but it doesn’t need to be scary. I don’t really think of it as a horror movie, but I don’t care if somebody calls it a horror movie. That’s fine."
