AJ Lee’s vocalist Kari Kimmel has reacted to Lee's return to WWE Raw after more than a decade.

Lee’s WWE theme song is titled Let's Light It Up, which has been performed by Jim Johnston featuring Kimmel. She took to her Instagram to express her excitement and gratitude, and wrote:

“AJ Lee is back! And yep… That’s still me on the theme song. I sang “Let’s Light it Up” over a decade ago, and it’s so awesome to hear it lighting up the arena again! Grateful to be a part of something so iconic. #AJLee #LetsLightItUp #WWE #WWEHistory #WrestlingMusic #Singer #smackdown #cmpunk”

Lee will team up with her husband, CM Punk to face Becky Lynch and Seth Rollins in a massive mixed tag team match at Wrestlepalooza 2025. The event will take place on Saturday, September 20, 2025, according to Sports Illustrated. It will be streamed live at 7 PM ET / 4 PM PT on ESPN in the United States and on Netflix globally.

Here are more details on AJ Lee’s return to WWE.

AJ Lee makes her comeback to WWE

AJ Lee made her highly anticipated return to WWE for the first time in 10 years, when she appeared on SmackDown’s September 5, 2025 edition, held in Chicago.

The former Divas Champion retired from WWE in April 2015, following serious neck injuries, including three herniated discs in her cervical spine. This eventually affected her ability to wrestle safely. Her retirement came after a marquee match at WrestleMania 31, where she teamed up with Paige to win against the Bella twins, according to a report in The Sportster.

During her appearance on The Sessions with Renee Paquette podcast in 2022, AJ Lee revealed the nature of her injuries. She said:

“I herniated three discs in my cervical spine the week before this match, and couldn’t turn my head or feel my hands. The doctor asked me if I had been in a car crash, haha. @RealPaigeWWE protected me fiercely like a goddamn superhero (I think even helped dress me), so I heart her forever.”

On a September 8, 2025, episode of RAW, AJ Lee reflected on her mental health journey since her retirement in 2015. While speaking to the crowd, she said:

“I wasn’t healthy, I needed to take care of myself, get right. I went to therapy, I got treatment, and I found a way to turn all this mental chaos into my superpower. And man, the fight is not easy, every day is a fight but let me tell you, if you’re going through the same thing, that fight is worth it, you’re worth it.”

Lee is considered one of the best wrestlers of the early 2010s. Reportedly, she is a three-time WWE Divas Champion, tying the record. Her 295-day reign as Divas Champion was the longest in WWE history until it was surpassed by Nikki Bella. She has won multiple Slammy Awards, which included Diva of the Year in 2012 and 2014. She also won Kiss of the Year in 2012 (with John Cena).
