The video showed Alex calling Maia 'idiot' during a private practice session.According to the Associated Press, Alex said that "I feel terrible about it. When Maia was found to have a cancerous tumor on her kidney in 2019, they prolonged their vacation from competition. She had surgery to remove the lump, and after receiving further care, she recovered successfully but painfully and slowly."These past seven years have challenged and inspired us in ways we never expected. I'm so happy and grateful to be healthy and in a position to make the decision to return to the sport I love in this way," Maia said at the time.In Friday's Osaka rhythm dance competition, the Shibutanis finished sixth.
