Chef Anne Burrell, who was known for hosting Food Network’s Worst Cooks in America, has died at the age of 55.

According to her representatives, who informed ABC News, she died at her home in New York on June 17, 2025. However, no cause of death has been reported by the sources yet. Food Network confirmed the news in a statement, posted on Instagram, which read:

“Anne was a remarkable person and culinary talent – teaching, competing and always sharing the importance of food in her life and the joy that a delicious meal can bring. Our thoughts are with Anne’s family, friends and fans during this time of tremendous loss.”

Anne Burrell was born on September 21, 1969, in Cazenovia, New York. She graduated from Canisius College in Buffalo, New York, earning a degree in English and Communications, per ABC News. She later pursued her culinary education at the Culinary Institute of America and graduated in 1996. According to Celebrity Net Worth, her net worth is estimated to be around $4 million.

Anner Burrell dedicated years to honing her culinary skills and career, which resulted in her financial success. After graduating from the Culinary Institute of America, Burrell continued her education at the Italian Culinary Institute for Foreigners in Piedmont. When she was in Italy, she worked at La Bottega del '30 to refine her culinary skills. It was located in Tuscany, per a report in Marca.

On returning to the U.S., she started to work under the legendary chef Lidia Bastianich at a fine dining restaurant in New York City. Later, she was appointed as the executive chef at Savoy and then at Centro Vinoteca, in New York City.

Her television debut came in 2005 when she was invited by Mario Batali to be his sous chef on Iron Chef America. After years of experience, Burrell launched her show, Secrets of a Restaurant Chef, in 2008.

Later in 2010, she co-hosted Worst Cooks in America, where she trained a team of cooks with no culinary experience as they competed, honing their skills on the show. According to My Morning Star, Burrell earned a fortune from her successful shows and her best-selling cookbooks. The majority of her earnings came from the television, which made her a household name and people’s favorite chef in America.

Anne Burrell is survived by her husband, Stuart Claxton, her son, Javier, her mother, Marlene, her sister, Jane, Jane’s children, Isabella, Amelia, and Nicolas, and her brother, Ben. The celebrity chef met Claxton on Bumble in 2018. They got engaged on April 20 and decided to tie the knot in October 2021 in Burrell’s hometown of Cazenovia, New York, per US Weekly.
