While the MCU's Blade reboot remains in development, this week, we got a glimpse of a different version of the character. It has been known for a while that the Daywalker (the character's comic book moniker) will appear in Marvel Zombies, which is scheduled to release in October 2025 to celebrate Halloween.
Recently, Funko Pop released a new figure that depicts the vampire hunter in an avatar that fans haven't seen in the past. It should also be noted that the new version of the character is not the one in the mainline MCU Blade, still scheduled to be played by Mahershala Ali in the reboot. However, the glimpse of this new merch doesn't mean much for the movie, which is still supposedly under development.
Marvel Zombie will introduce a completely different version of Blade:

As mentioned before, the version of the Daywalker seen in the image above doesn't look like the character fans saw in the previous movies and comics. That's because the Earth Marvel Zombies is set in, will see a Blade who serves as Khonshu's Avatar instead of Marc Spector. Thus, the suit we see the Vampire hunter wear in the upcoming animated show is a Moon Knight suit.
A lot of fans are hoping that the character's appearance in Marvel Zombies will help the MCU movie move forward.
Will the Daywalker's appearance in Marvel Zombies mean that the long-in-development movie?
Truth be told, we hope that this is the case, but practically speaking, both are completely different entities. The movie was announced back in 2019's Comic-Con, but cameras haven't started rolling on the movie even today. Furthermore, many fans are wondering if Mahershala Ali, who is already 51 years old, will even play the role.
Both Kevin Feige and Mia Goth have spoken about the delays. Goth addressed the movie's delay in a deadline interview in June 2024 at the MaXXXine premiere:
“Really care, they do. They want to make a great movie. That’s the sense that I get from them and that feels good.”
Later, Marvel boss Kevin Feige addressed the delay in a November 2024 Omelete interview:
"We are committed to Blade. We love the character, we love Mahershala's take on him. And rest assured: whenever we change direction with a project, or are still figuring out how it fits into our schedule, we let the audience know. You're all up to date on what's happening. But I can tell you that the character will indeed make it to the MCU."
A few months ago, rumors were spreading across the internet that the movie might have found a director in John Wick's Chad Stahelski. The acclaimed action movie director, who has worked with Marvel as the Second-unit director in Captain America: Civil War, also expressed hope to direct the project in his appearance on Josh Horowitz's podcast in 2023:
“Of all the things out there, I would take a swing at Blade in a second. Like that’s one that gets under my skin, like ‘Ah! I’d take a swing at that one.'”
However, it must be noted that as of now, the project does not have a director yet. Thus, as of now, the project's status remains unconfirmed. However, some believe that the long-delayed MCU project will move forward after Avengers: Secret Wars reboots the universe.
