Popular British musician Perry Bamonte, best known for being the guitarist and keyboardist for the English rock band The Cure, is dead. He was 65. His death was announced on his band’s official website on Friday.

As per the announcement, Perry Bamonte passed away after battling a short illness. He died in his home over Christmas.

“IT IS WITH ENORMOUS SADNESS THAT WE CONFIRM THE DEATH OF OUR GREAT FRIEND AND BANDMATE PERRY BAMONTE, WHO PASSED AWAY AFTER A SHORT ILLNESS AT HOME OVER CHRISTMAS. QUIET, INTENSE, INTUITIVE, CONSTANT AND HUGELY CREATIVE, ‘TEDDY’ WAS A WARM HEARTED AND VITAL PART OF THE CURE STORY.

The announcement continued:

“LOOKING AFTER THE BAND’ FROM 1984 THROUGH 1989, HE BECAME A FULL TIME MEMBER OF THE CURE IN 1990, PLAYING GUITAR, SIX STRING BASS AND KEYBOARD ON THE WISH, WILD MOOD SWINGS, BLOODFLOWERS, ACOUSTIC HITS AND THE CURE ALBUMS, AS WELL AS PERFORMING MORE THAN 400 SHOWS OVER 14 YEARS. HE REJOINED THE CURE IN 2022, PLAYING ANOTHER 90 SHOWS, SOME OF THE BEST IN THE BAND’S HISTORY, CULMINATING WITH THE SHOW OF A LOST WORLD CONCERT IN LONDON 1ST NOVEMBER 2024.”

The lenghty statement concluded.

“OUR THOUGHTS AND CONDOLENCES ARE WITH ALL HIS FAMILY. HE WILL BE VERY GREATLY MISSED.”

Who was Perry Bamonte?

Perry Bamonte was an English musician for The Cure and a bassist of Love Amongst Ruin. He died on Boxing Day after a short illness. He was 65. Perry was born in London and, with his younger brother’s influence, joined The Cure’s road crew. He worked his way from a guitar technician and assistant to a full member who was well-versed in playing both the guitar and piano.

Following his passing, former member and drummer of The Cure Lol Tolhurst, wrote a tribute to Perry on X. Je tweeted:

“So sad to hear about the passing of Perry Bamonte from The Cure. Perry joined us all as my keyboard tech initially, then, after working as guitar tech, went on to play in the band. A quiet unassuming man he will be missed by many. Cindy and I send our love to his family.”
