The two actors who were co-stars in Camp Rock and Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam had a strained relationship, particularly during the production of the second film. Their close friendship fell apart due to Demi Lovato’s mental health struggles, substance abuse, and rising fame.

However, they reconciled while working on Lovato's documentary, Child Star, released in September 2024. In her documentary, Lovato apologized for her past behavior and admitted regret for treating people around her poorly at that time.

What did Demi Lovato say about punching a dancer in her documentary?

In her 2024 documentary, titled the Child Star, Demi Lovato shared an incident from 2010 where she punched a backup dancer, Alex Welch, on a plane during The Jonas Brothers tour.

Explaining the incident in her YouTube documentary Simply Complicated, Lovato said that the altercation between her and Welch took place as she told the adults about her drug use. She said:

“I was in Columbia, on the Camp Rock 2 tour. I invited a bunch of people to dinner, my band and my background dancers. I paid for all the alcohol. Somebody ended up getting weed. I was on Adderall, and we had trashed the hotel.”

She added:

“The hotel was threatening us, they went to some of the dancers and asked what had happened. I think they told on me for using Adderall. Somebody told Kevin Jonas, Sr. [the father of the Jonas brothers], and [my manager] Phil [McIntyre] and my dad [Eddie De La Garza]."

The incident reportedly prompted Demi Lovato to go to rehab. According to People Magazine, she suffered a drug overdose in 2018 and had three strokes and a heart attack in the hospital.

During the release of her 2024 documentary, Lovato apologized to Alyson Stoner for her behavior on the sets of Camp Rock. Stoner, who uses they/them pronouns, told Lovato:

"I remember that it felt so hard to access you in that way. I felt that support mutually, and feeling like we know that what we're dealing with at the surface level is just one part of the story of what we're going through each day. The treatment did feel drastically different.”

Apologizing for her behavior, Demi Lovato added:

"I know that we both were going through our own stuff, but it still didn't give me an excuse to treat anyone poorly, and so I just want to genuinely, deeply apologize for any stress or any walking on eggshells, any hurt feelings. I'm genuinely so sorry for that. And I look back at that time, and I have profound sadness, 'cause I'm like, 'How many people did I treat poorly?'"

Alyson Stoner released her memoir, Semi-Well Adjusted Despite Literally Everything, on August 12, 2025, a day after her 32nd birthday, according to her Instagram.
