Former NFL star Colin Kaepernick’s girlfriend, Nessa Diab, has spoken out in support of Nicki Minaj amid her ongoing feud with Roc Nation.

In a tweet shared on July 16, 2025, Diab drew parallels between Minaj’s recent conflict and Kaepernick’s controversy with the NFL.

She asserted that the alleged “smear campaign tactics” Minaj described facing from the rapper, his company, and the CEO of Roc Nation, Desiree Perez, were “very similar” to the tactics used against her boyfriend after he protested against racial injustice and police brutality.

Indicating what happened between Jay-Z and Colin Kaepernick, Nessa wrote,

"@NICKIMINAJ exposing the smear campaign tactics that Jay-Z, Roc Nation, Desiree Perez did to her behind the scenes, is VERY similar to what I was told they did to @Kapernick7 when Jay purposely co-opted Colin’s protest by siding with the NFL to help “their image” after they blackballed Colin for his protest.”

The tweet referenced a 2016 incident when the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback began kneeling during the national anthem to protest against the treatment of black people. Reports suggest that Jay-Z, who initially supported Kaepernick, “betrayed” him by announcing a partnership with the NFL. Nessa too denied his claims that he spoke to Kaepernick ahead of the deal.

What did Colin Kaepernick’s girlfriend Nessa say about him in her recent post?

Colin Kaepernick’s longtime partner, Nessa Diab, has been vocal in her public support. She has often backed the former NFL player through her statements on social media.

In a recent tweet, she exposed the alleged tactics that Jay-Z, Roc Nation, and the company's CEO, Desiree Perez, use against Nicki Minaj. She focused on how the rapper and Roc Nation exploited Colin Kaepernick’s protest efforts behind his back. She wrote:

“I called them all out YEARS ago and so many people were scared to say it publicly, but would tell me how they agreed with me privately. Smh”

And added:

“Roc Nation apparently took $5 million a year over 5 years to bury the growing protest, AND specifically help them “move beyond the controversy around teams' unwillingness to sign Kaepernick.”

She further stated in her tweet, talking about how Desiree was pardoned by President Donald Trump in 2021. She was reportedly arrested on drug, firearm, and grand larceny charges. Nessa wrote:

“Desiree even said "We love that everybody wants to be on the stage, that we've completely changed the conversation to fighting for it versus boycotting. We've come a long way." She got her pardon by Trump - no coincidence the NFL owners are his buddies and also donated millions to his campaign.”

She then concluded her post by saying:

“I still don’t watch that league or whoever is performing at whatever game they have playing. #stillwithkap #FOREVER.”

The New York Post reported in April that Colin Kaepernick still dreams of playing for the NFL. In an interview with TMZ Sports, Nessa spoke about how the 37-year-old is training “all day, every day,” adding that “Nothing has changed.”

Kaepernick last played in an NFL game in 2017. He was offered a job with the Los Angeles Chargers last year as a coach, but chose to pass on the opportunity.
