English fashion designer, singer, and TV personality Victoria Beckham, 51, once dated the late Canadian actor Corey Haim in 1995. He died on March 10, 2010, of pulmonary congestion, according to early autopsy results by the Los Angeles County coroner’s office at the time, reported by ABC News.

Around the same time, Haim’s mother, Judy, told Access Hollywood that the coroner’s office mentioned that her son’s cause of death was an enlarged heart and water-filled lungs.

Before that, Corey Haim was suspected of having died from an alleged prescription drug overdose. However, his agent, Mark Heaslip, refuted the claims and said that the actor was “very clean” during his final days, according to NZ Herald.

During Haim’s demise, Victoria Beckham shared that the news left her both “shocked and upset,” as per Press Party reports.

Now, the former Spice Girls member is married to English football icon Sir David Beckham, 50, and shares four children with him, including Brooklyn, 26; Romeo, 23; Cruz, 20; and Harper Seven, 14. The couple met in 1997 and exchanged wedding vows two years later.

Exploring the circumstances of Corey Haim’s demise

On March 10, 2010, Corey Haim was found unconscious at his mother Judy Haim’s North Hollywood residence. Later, the 38-year-old was rushed to Providence St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, California, where he was pronounced dead.

At the time, Los Angeles police sergeant Frank Albarran told the press that Haim’s mom called 911 around 1:30 am, and the paramedics then rushed him to the hospital. Judy Haim also mentioned that her son was suffering from “flu-like symptoms” two days before his death.

Meanwhile, officials revealed four prescription pill bottles were found in Corey Haim’s room. However, the kind of medications was not reported. Another sergeant, William Mann, told The Associated Press:

"He could have succumbed to whatever [illness] he had, or it could have been drugs. He has had a drug problem in the past."

According to ABC News, Corey Haim previously struggled with cocaine and Valium addiction and had been to rehab more than a dozen times. He even admitted to having a substance abuse problem during a 2007 interview with Nightline.

"I feel like... I ruined myself to the point where I wasn't functional enough to work for anybody, even myself. I wasn't working. You know, if I'm not working, how can anybody else expect me to work for them if I'm not working? I mean, physically working. My brain wasn't working," he said of his addiction.

The License to Drive actor also spoke about hitting “rock bottom” and being unable to look himself in the mirror, adding his problem was similar to actress Lindsay Lohan, with whom he empathized.

"I felt guilty about myself and everybody, and what I was doing, this and that, I just did something about it on my own, but she's young enough to catch it. I see, just a version of me that is female and younger, and I just hope that she catches it now, you know?" Corey Haim added.

In 2001, he also suffered a drug-induced stroke, as per The Standard reports. Six years later, he visited the hospital several times and called himself a “chronic relapser.”

At the time of his demise, the Lost Boys star was helping his mother in her breast cancer journey.

About Corey Haim’s relationship with Victoria Beckham

In 2008, he claimed in a magazine interview that they never officially broke up and had an unusual kissing technique.

"When she kisses, she does this funny thing. She does this little grrhh thing... She does this gnaw thing. She liked to gnaw on my lip," the actor stated.

The late Canadian actor added he was attracted to Posh Spice’s “sniper eyes” and called her his “soulmate.” According to The Standard, the duo met when Victoria was in London in 1995 to record a song for her band, Spice Girls.

“These five punk rock chicks walked in, and there was Vic - boom. So, I had to hang out with her, it was my job as a man,” Haim told the magazine.

Corey also claimed to have visited Lady Beckham’s parental home.

However, she denied ever having a physical relationship during their brief romance. Victoria Beckham told OK! Magazine:

“We didn't have sex or anything. In actual fact, he didn't seem to want to try. The most we did was kiss… Looking back, it's hard to work out whether I really fancied him or if I was just a bit of a sad fan.”

Her self-titled documentary, Victoria Beckham, is set to premiere on Netflix on October 9.
