Todd Chrisley shared an emotional moment with his son Grayson Chrisley after he and his wife, Julie Chrisley, were released from prison in May 2025. The couple was allegedly convicted of bank fraud and tax evasion in 2022.
During their first televised appearance on Fox News’ My View with Lara Trump, Todd revealed that his 19-year-old son made a request to his parents to sleep in their bedroom, the first night they returned to their home, as he was “scared” they would be sent away again. He recalled during the interview and said:
“He came in and he said, ‘Can I sleep with you tonight?’ I said, ‘You can.’”
As reported by People Magazine, Grayson Chrisley was involved in a serious car accident in Nashville, Tennessee, on November 12, 2022, when he was 16 at the time.
On Chrisley Confessions, his father, Todd, explained that his son was involved in a “horrific” car accident, which took place shortly before he and his wife were sentenced to prison.
Here is what we know about the car accident.
How did the car accident that severely injured Grayson Chrisley occur?
According to Fox 5 Atlanta, Grayson Chrisley, who was then 16, was driving his Ford F-150 when he collided with the back of a Dodge Ram truck that was completely stopped in heavy traffic. The accident took place on Interstate 65 in Nashville at 5:30 p.m. in November 2022.
The driver of the truck was at a complete halt on I-65N when he felt the impact of Chrisley’s car, a report from the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department, obtained by CBS News, stated.
Grayson Chrisley suffered a head injury and was unable to recall anything from the incident. On the other hand, the truck driver suffered injuries but refused to be taken to the hospital. Their vehicles were towed, and there was heavy traffic on I-65N. The truck driver, Mr. Rykwalder, accused Grayson Chrisley of being a distracted driver and demanded damages between $25K to $750K.
The documents stated that Grayson “failed to act appropriately under the circumstances.” This included keeping a safe distance, maintaining the speed, and staying off of electronic devices “within his motor vehicle”:
“Had Defendant, Grayson M. Chrisley, been paying attention to the roadway in front of him, this crash would not have occurred,” the lawsuit read.
One month after the accident, Grayson Chrisley appeared on his sister, Savannah Chrisley’s Unlocked podcast, where he spoke about his health condition following the incident. According to a report in People Magazine, he said:
"I'm fine. The truck is not fine, but I am fine. ... But it was bad, it was really bad.”
He then called out the media to make it sound like he had died, whereas he said that he was doing fine. As per the outlet, Chrisley was surprised to see how people reacted when he uploaded a picture of himself from the gym after the car accident:
"Do you know how many DMs I got that were like, 'Surprised you're not still in the hospital?' I'm like, 'I was there for, like, four hours.'"
