Jamal Musiala, 22-year-old winger and attacking midfielder for Bayern Munich, suffered a serious injury during the club’s last game against PSG. Musiala, during the first half of the quarter-finals game of the FIFA Club World Cup 2025, went after a loose ball stationed near the end line.
Gianluigi Donnarumma, goalkeeper for PSG, also had his eyes set on the ball and crashed into Musiala’s left ankle as he dove for it. Musiala, visibly in pain, rolled over on the field as his foot was awkward, and his ankle appeared broken.
The PSG goalkeeper was walking off with the ball when he realized that Musiala had suffered a gruesome injury and seemed taken aback. Gianluigi Donnarumma dropped to his knees with his face in his hands as he realized the severity of the incident.
Bayern Munich players swarmed around their injured teammate and looked concerned for him. Medical personnel soon appeared on the field, taking the latter off a stretcher.
The PSG keeper reportedly appeared emotional as the two teams walked towards the locker rooms after the first half.
“I hope it’s not too bad, but it didn’t look good,” Vincent Kompany, Bayern Munich manager says as Musiala suffers ankle injury during game against PSG
Bayern Munich’s manager expressed concern for the star player and hoped that the injury wasn’t as severe as it looked:
'It was emotional. Of course, it didn't look good. I hope it's not too bad, but it didn't look good. I hope he'll have the best possible recovery.'
The club also released an official statement that they were standing behind the injured player:
"Jamal Musiala has to be carried off the field injured. We're with you, Jamal!'
Musiala was replaced at halftime by Serge Gnabry. Bayern Munich was subsequently defeated by PSG by two goals to none and dropped out of the quarter-finals. Désiré Doué scored a goal in the 78th minute and another scored by Dembélé in the stoppage time ensured that PSG advanced further in the tournament.
PSG is expected to play against Real Madrid or Borussia Dortmund in the semi-finals at East Rutherford.
