American court-show arbitrator Judge Judy, real name Judith Susan Sheindlin, decided to speak out about “people,” or rather famous individuals who are “rude” to their fans. Judge Judy sat down with Robin Roberts on Good Morning America to discuss her new television series, Justice on Trial, which aired on July 21, 2025.
During the interview, Roberts mentioned how Sheindlin is well-received in public. She said:
"I've gotten to know you, and when you're out in the streets, you present yourself a certain way. You know, being tough. But you are so sweet with your fans. What do people ask you now?"
To this, Judith replied with a smile. She said:
"You know, you can't be a celebrity... when you've been around for 30 years, if you have that, you are a celebrity. You can't be a celebrity unless you have fans, and I never quite understood people who are rude to fans. It's just ridiculous. It's like being a butcher coming outside and saying 'Don't eat meat, it's bad for you,'" she laughed and continued, "I just don't understand that."
How does Judge Judy feel about fans coming up to her in public?
After Robin Roberts mentioned how Judge Judy acts with her fans and then posed the question about what her fans ask her, the court-show judge answered by saying that she does not understand why celebrities are rude to their fans.
She then proceeded to answer the question by saying she “actually enjoyed” fans coming up to her when she is out in public. She also added that “everybody is pretty respectful.”
Roberts proceeded to ask another question. She inquired:
"So, they don't ask you anymore about law?"
Judge Judy said:
"It's gotten to me," recalling a conversation with a fan.
She continued in a certain voice:
"I used to watch it with my grandmother. She's gone, ten years. I had your picture you sent me, and I buried her with it," she broke into a chuckle.
Is Judge Judy going to retire soon?
For loyal fans who are curious, Robin Roberts asked 82-year-old Judith if she is retiring anytime soon. She asked:
"Is retirement even in your vocabulary? Do you even know what that word means?"
To which she promptly answered and concluded:
"You know, rewiring is. This is a rewiring for me. I was accustomed to doing something for almost 30 years, and even when I created "Hot Bench" and then "Tribunal Justice," that was still in the same... melody. But this is a whole different adventure for me, so it's not... you don't retire, you rewire, and find something else that works for you."
She mentioned during the interview that her latest show has been “in the works for 15 years,” and that she filmed the pilot 10 years ago. Judge Judy’s latest television series, Justice on Trial, is available to stream on Prime.
