Adam Scott was on his former Parks and Recreation co-star Amy Poehler’s "Good Hang" podcast and got candid about almost quitting Hollywood. He revealed how he lost a role on HBO's black comedy drama TV series, Six Feet Under, to Michael C. Hall.
In Scott's words:
"It was the one where I was like, 'I might stop doing this. I think that it’s time for me to read the tea leaves and walk away.'"
Losing the role was "painful" for Adam because he believed that Six Feet Under was "the show" during the early 2000s.
Amy added humorously,
"like someone f**king your girlfriend in front of you."
Scott responded by saying:
"One hundred percent," he added it "eclipsed all other shows... It was the show.”
Based on his reaction, Amy Poehler asked the Severance actor how close he was to getting the role of David Fisher. He replied:
"He and I tested for it... That hurts."
Was Adam Scott bitter for not landing David Fisher's role in Six Feet Under?
While Adam Scott was gutted after losing the role of David Fisher to Michael C. Hall, he did agree that Hall was a great actor and played the role well. In his words:
"It's good that I didn't get it because it wouldn't be nearly as good if I had done it because he was perfect and incredible... He's incredible, and I wasn't ready."
Even though Scott was not chosen for the main role, he did appear on Six Feet Under in season 2. He played the role of Ben Cooper, who was David Fisher's brother's boyfriend. He described his experience on the show as "fun" and "lovely".
At the same time, it also helped Scott go through a learning experience. He expressed:
"But yeah, that was a blow... That was hard. But it's also important that you have those experiences."
What roles did Adam Scott and Amy Poehler play on Parks and Recreation?
Adam Scott played the role of Ben Wyatt. He was a socially awkward government official, specifically a state auditor. He was introduced to the show in the second season. He appeared on 98 episodes of Parks and Recreation.
Amy Poehler was one of the main characters on Parks and Recreation. She played the role of Leslie Knope, an optimistic mid-level bureaucrat with big dreams of becoming the President of the United States. She appeared on 126 episodes of the show.
Adam Scott's honesty about almost walking away from Hollywood shows how deeply losing the role of David Fisher in Six Feet Under affected him. Instead of letting the setback define his career, he turned it into a valuable learning experience. He also acknowledges that the role went to the right actor and even appeared in the second season of the show.
