Rapper-singer Max B was released from prison on November 9. His longtime collaborator and friend, French Montana, who celebrated his 41st birthday on Sunday, marked the moment with an Instagram post.“CAN’T MAKE THIS UP! MY BROTHER REALLY CAME HOME ON MY B’DAY! HAMDULILLAH [prayer hand emoji] WALKED IT DOWN! NO MORE, FREE YOU [three wave emoji],” the caption read.In the accompanying clip, the duo were seen breaking down and sharing a hug in the middle of a street, before exchanging a lighthearted moment before walking off together, seemingly for a car ride.During a September 2022 interview with USA Today, French Montana called Max B his “best friend” and how he planned to carry on his legacy. “My best friend (Max B) is serving 75 years in prison. Only one of us made it. I think about all this when I make music, of all the sacrifices made. Nothing is just going to come to you; you have to make it happen,” Montana shared back then.The duo is also best known for their Coke Wave series, the fourth installment of which was released in 2019. At the time, Max, whose real name is Charly Wingate, became a mentor for Montana.The pair soon followed up with the February 2009 mixtape Coke Wave. Its sequel, Coke Wave 2, was released in November of that same year. They also teamed up with Dame Grease for the compilation album, Goon Music 2.0.Later, when Max B was incarcerated, French Montana advocated for his friend’s freedom from the New Jersey State Prison. For instance, he tweeted that Max would be released from prison in late 2023 while promoting their song, Lemonade, from the mixtape Coke Boys 6.In 2013, Max B contributed to his protégé’s debut studio album, Excuse My French, including on the songs, Once in a While and Hey My Guy.Max and Montana collaborated on Wave Gods in 2016 while the former was still behind bars. That same year, Wingate collaborated with the Bronx resident on the single, Chinx 7 Max/ Paid For from the MC4 mixtape.The Moroccan-born battle rapper also teamed up with Max B and The Weeknd for his single A Lie for his sophomore album, Jungle Rules. The mentor-mentee duo reunited with the 2019 song, Hold On.During a 2016 appearance on The Breakfast Club, French Montana shared his feelings about Kanye’s album Waves and whether that in any way impacted Max B, who was one of the pioneers of the wave movement.“I never looked at it as something negative when someone like Kanye try to do the wave thing. I feel like that's a compliment; you don't get mad at something like that. I feel like when everyone attacked Kanye, he didn't get it,” Montana stated.He continued:“I was hearing different things. I heard he was going to go on the internet and say 'F**k Max B' because he didn't know. Me just having that great relationship with him, we got to put it together and got great records out of it, ended up putting Max on the album. Right now, they're putting in work together.”French Montana also claimed that Ye was trying to help Charly Wingate get released from prison. He said:“We workin' on something. I want to keep it under wraps until we put it together but we've definitely been on the phone damn near every day trying to put something together for my boy.”Kanye, later, worked with Max on the 2016 single, Siiiiiiiiilver Surffffeeeeer Intermission, which appeared on his album, The Life of Pablo. Montana also helped Wingate during his feud with Jim Jones.It remains unclear whether Max B and Montana will professionally collaborate soon.
