Besides his long political career and royal roots, Sheikha Mahra’s father made a chunk of his fortune from his business ventures. In July 2006, he founded the holding company Dubai World, which became the parent company of DP World (a logistics firm) and Nakheel Properties (property developer). Since then, it has expanded globally and now invests in companies based in the USA, the UK, and South Africa.

Sheikh Maktoum also owns the conglomerate Dubai Holding, comprising Jumeirah Group, TECOM Investments, Dubai Properties Group, and Emirates International Telecommunications. These are all developers and management businesses focusing on hospitality, real estate, telecommunications, and business parks.

Sheikha Mahra’s father is also the pioneering figure behind the establishment of the Palm Islands in the Persian Gulf, the Dubai-based luxury hotel, Burj Al Arab, the world’s tallest building, Burj Khalifa, and the Dubai Mall inside it.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum was influential in the development of both Emirates Airlines and FlyDubai.

Besides his multiple business ventures, he founded a nonprofit called Mohammed Bin Rashid Global Initiatives, comprising over 30 charities. Sheikha Mahra’s father is also the founder of the Mohammed bin Rashid School of Government.
