Jelly Roll appeared on the December 10 episode of The Joe Rogan Experience and explained why he decided to embark on a dramatic weight loss transformation. According to the All My Life crooner, he shed over 200 pounds because he was concerned about his health. The singer feared he might not live long.

“I could feel myself dying.”

Jelly Roll explained that he started considering the weight-loss journey around his 39th birthday.

“It was right around my 39th birthday that I started really considering taking the step to try to make a major change in my life. I thought about it around my birthday ‘cause I knew my next one was 40, and I was like, ‘I don't think I've ever met a 500-lb 40-year-old.”

He added:

“It felt like I'd already cheated the game. I'd had multiple heart issues, and I was like, ‘Man, I should really start trying to figure this out.”

The American rapper and singer was also candid about how his weight affected his sex life.

“I married the kind of woman that makes you smile when you're crying, Joe. And I couldn't even get aroused, I was so big. I was having to play Twister to have sex—left foot here, right foot in the X. ‘Are we in there yet? Tell me if you feel something.’ It was bad.”

Now, Jelly Roll is feeling great. He told Joe he didn't believe he could lose that much weight.

In addition to discussing his weight loss journey on the podcast, Jelly Roll also received an invitation to become a member of the Grand Ole Opry. The singer teared up while watching a video of Craig Morgan officially inviting him.

In the clip, Craig praised Jelly and acknowledged his impact in the music industry.

“And who would have ever dreamed back then that I’d be back at the Opry House today, to say Jelly Roll, you’re officially invited to become a member of the Grand Ole Opry. It’s an honor to say welcome to the family, brother.”

Hearing the invitation, the I Am Not OK hitmaker became very emotional. Jelly revealed he never once thought that he would receive the invite.

“It don’t get no bigger in country music, bubba. It’s as big as it gets.”
