Shannon Sharpe, the ex-NFL player, has been making waves online after it was revealed that he will not be returning to ESPN, according to The Guardian. This decision was made shortly after he settled a lawsuit filed by his former girlfriend, who accused him of sexual assault while they were in a relationship.
Shannon last appeared on ESPN in late April, around the time the lawsuit was filed. With ESPN cutting ties with Sharpe, he loses a reported $6.5M/year ESPN salary and massive visibility, according to Sports Business Journal; however, as of Celebrity Net Worth, he has a net worth of $30 million.
Shannon Sharpe's fallout with ESPN
The Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee, Shannon, won't be featuring as a commentator on the popular morning debate show First Take on ESPN, as per reports.
This comes after a lawsuit was filed against him in late April 2025 in Nevada by a woman named 'Jane Doe' in the lawsuit. She accused Sharpe of sexually assaulting her twice, once in October 2024 and the other time in January 2025. She also accused him of emotional distress, violence, and of filming their private moments without her consent, according to USA Today.
Sharpe had then denied all the accusations and referred to them as "false and disruptive". In the wake of the allegations, Shannon had stepped back from ESPN in late April and had said, as per The New York Post:
''At this juncture I am electing to step aside temporarily from my ESPN duties. I will be devoting this time to my family, and responding and dealing with these false and disruptive allegations set against me.''
ESPN had also agreed with his decision to step away and had added:
''This is a serious situation, and we agree with Shannon’s decision to step away.''
The lawsuit, however, did not go through a trial and was dismissed with prejudice, meaning it can’t be filed again. The case ended with a confidential settlement, and the settlement news was shared by the accuser's lawyer, Tony Buzbee, on social media. In the statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), Buzbee wrote:
''I’m pleased to announce that we have reached a mutually agreed upon resolution. All matters have now been addressed satisfactorily, and the matter is closed. The lawsuit will thus be dismissed with prejudice."
Shannon joined ESPN in August 2023, and before joining ESPN, he was co-hosting Undisputed on FS1 with Skip Bayless.
Currently, he hosts two active podcasts, Club Shay Shay, which is a weekly interview-style podcast where Sharpe chats with athletes and celebrities, and the other one is Nightcap, which is a live‑streamed nightly podcast co‑hosted by Shannon and Chad Ochocinco Johnson.
