Actor Terence Stamp, famous for his work in the Superman movie, died on August 17 at the age of 87. The announcement was made by his family in a statement to Reuters that read:

"He leaves behind an extraordinary body of work, both as an actor and as a writer that will continue to touch and inspire people for years to come. We ask for privacy at this sad time."

The actor shared a close bond with Diana, Princess of Wales. The two first met at the 1987 premiere of Wall Street, where he played British tycoon Sir Larry Wildman. He was connected to Diana through art dealer Oliver Hoare after Terence Stamp asked for a proper introduction.

In an interview, reported by the Daily Mail, he opened up about their friendship and her marriage by saying:

"We got on amazingly well... I saw the sadness in her because she’d gone into a marriage believing – she was a believer in marriage. And it didn’t turn out the way she expected it to."

Princess Diana was married to Charles III from 1981 to 1996, before the couple decided to part ways. While Stamp mentioned Diana in a few interviews, he mostly kept their friendship private.

Terence Stamp reveals he and Princess Diana would meet for tea

In the interview, reported by DailyMail, Stamp further revealed that the two used to hang out for dinner and even for a cup of tea. Discussing the duration of their talks, he added:

"Sometimes we’d have a long chat for an hour, sometimes it would be very quick."

Diana also visited Stamp’s apartment at The Albany in London, where he hosted her and cooked mushroom risotto.

Mentioning Diana and her emotions at that time, he said:

"She just wanted somebody to talk to that was a guy, who would give her objective opinions. It happens with age. I guess that the only thing that changes with age is that you have a shift in understanding really. Because of your own values, you understand what young women are. You let go of things."

Stamp married Elizabeth O’Rourke in 2002. However, after six years together, the couple divorced in 2008, bringing their marriage to an end.

The news of his death has come as a shock to many, with fans and celebrities sending heartfelt tributes for the late actor on social media.
