Kate Winslet was in a cheerful interview with Josh Horowitz recently, and her The Holiday costar popped up in the middle through a screen. And before we knew it, the environment was full of laughter, even though it was a brief appearance. That’s natural when actors like Jack Black show up unexpectedly like this.
After his video feed ended, the Titanic actress revealed a funny thing regarding how she got a nickname. It was all thanks to Jack Black. She told Josh about that incident, saying that,
"I actually have a, little bit of a, nickname on set. So, my nickname is K-dub. And he, Jack started that. What up, K-dub! And it stuck and honestly now, on set, most people say K-dub."
About Kate Winslet, Jack Black said in one interview regarding The Holiday that it was a dream come true for him. He said,
"This is my mom’s favourite type of movie. A love story with sweet feelings and lots of emotions. Also, Nancy Meyers is a very accomplished director. It would be hard to turn something down if she really wanted me. And, of course, the chance of working with Kate Winslet was a dream come true."
It certainly was a dream come true for him because the way they interacted during the interview confirms that they have become close friends over the years.
The film didn't get the critical love, as we can see on the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, which gives it a 51% score on its Tomatometer. But it did get the love it deserved from the audience, who gave the film an 80% on the Popcornmeter.
And apart from that, The Holiday was a commercial success, earning $205 million on an $85 million budget. It was in third position on that weekend, losing only to Happy Feet and Apocalypto.
You should watch The Holiday this holiday season
Now that we know the story behind Kate Winslet’s secret nickname, we should discuss the film too. Speaking of that, you need to watch this film as the holiday season is coming to an end.
It’s a rom-com exactly about what the title says. However, Winslet’s character is in a supporting role alongside Jack Black, Rufus Sewell, Edward Burns, Shannyn Sossamon, and more. Jude Law and Cameron Diaz are in the leading roles as Graham Simpkins and Amanda Woods, respectively.
The story begins with two girls going about their lives when something messed up happens. Both instances happen to involve their romantic interests. They certainly need a break from all of this. Following this, Winslet's Iris Simpkins and Diaz's Amanda Woods agree to a home swap through a website.
That begins the romantic affair between Diaz and Jude Law's character in The Holiday, Graham Simpkins, brother of Iris. He is kind of secretive because we later learn in the film that he is a widower and raising two daughters all by himself, which sort of impresses Amanda.
What happens next? That, we recommend you watch for yourself as 2025 comes to an end. And who knows, maybe you'll realize you need such a holiday too.
