The former broadcaster, writer, and media personality, Wendy Williams, was spotted arriving at her birthday dinner at Delmonico’s in NYC on Tuesday. When asked about what she wished for her upcoming birthday, which happens to be on July 18, 2025, she replied, saying "out of guardianship" almost instantly with no hesitation, as reported by TMZ.

Wendy was arriving for her birthday dinner with two of her attorneys and the executive television producer, Suzanne Bass. To provide background, Wendy was placed under guardianship in 2022, after her accounts were frozen, citing concerns that Wendy was a "victim of undue influence" and possibly cognitively impaired, according to People.

Wendy Williams wants freedom as a birthday wish

The former host of The Wendy Williams Show stated that she wished to be out of her guardianship for her 61st birthday after being spotted visibly excited for her birthday dinner outside a steakhouse.

Williams has been under a court-appointed legal guardianship since May 2022. The New York lawyer, Sabrina Morrissey, was assigned to oversee her finances and personal well-being. Earlier in 2022, her accounts were frozen by Wells Fargo, and they had filed the petition for temporary financial guardianship, claiming she exhibited signs of cognitive impairment, which could risk her getting exploited.

Since Morrissey was assigned as the guardian, the guardianship has overseen her financial affairs, healthcare decisions, as well as her personal interactions. In the Lifetime documentary Where Is Wendy Williams? Wendy briefly speaks about her guardianship in the third episode of the documentary.

In the episode, she stated that she was informed that she has no access to her money at Wells Fargo, and also claimed that her guardian had taken money from her account. However, the filmmakers said that Wendy didn’t show any proof regarding these claims.

Williams' guardian, Morrissey, had filed a lawsuit against Lifetime's parent company, A&E Television Networks, seeking to halt the release of the documentary. However, the documentary was then aired as scheduled.

Mark Ford, the executive producer of the documentary, has said this about signing off on the project, as per The Gleaner. He said:

''The film was signed off on by Wendy, her management, her attorneys, the guardianship. They were aware of the filming all the way through. So, we did go by the book and get all the permissions that we needed to get. We went into this film thinking it was one thing, and the truth turned out to be another. Once we started seeing the truth of the situation, we couldn't ignore it. And the film had to go in the direction of the truth.''

Wendy is currently living in a memory care unit at an assisted-living facility in New York City, under a court-appointed guardianship.
