Netflix's latest true crime docufilm, Aileen: Queen of the Serial Killers, revisits the infamous serial killing incident from the '90s that shook the state of Florida to its core. At the center of the case was the late Aileen Wuornos, who was charged with the murder of seven men (in 1989-90) while she was hitchhiking along the highways trying to earn money as a sex worker.

Aileen: Queen of the Serial Killers will take us back to the '90s through exclusive archival footage of the infamous investigation, audio recordings, and court statements. Per Tudum, Aileen Wuornos had mentioned in her statements back in 1990 that the murders were committed to defend herself from attempted sexual assault by her clients.

However, after a long trial and a death row stay of over a decade, Aileen was eventually executed in 2002. Here's the official synopsis of Aileen: Queen of the Serial Killers, per IMDb:

"Aileen Wuornos killed 7 men while working as a prostitute in Florida (1989-90), claiming self-defense against rape."

The upcoming Netflix documentary Queen of the Serial Killers on Aileen Carol Wuornos will premiere on October 30, and the nerve-wracking serial killing true story has suddenly become the talk of the town. Aileen was born in Michigan during the mid-50s, and her childhood was a traumatic journey, as sources confirm.

Aileen was in transit between foster homes and also faced a lot of abuse over the years. Eventually, she decided to move to Florida, but having run out of means to survive, she was forced to take up the job of a sex worker to earn money. According to Tudum, most of the time, she was hitchhiking along the state highways of Florida and even engaged in small-scale crimes that got her in and out of prison multiple times.

However, Aileen's life totally went up in flames when she was convicted of the murder of seven men (all of them were reportedly her clients) in 1991, and the investigation is still considered one of the most controversial ones (considering her traumatic past and potential state of mental instability). According to reports, the trial took dramatic turns and went on for months, with Aileen finally hearing the death sentence.

Aileen Wuornos' words during a prison interview, as seen in the latest trailer of Queen of the Serial Killers, still haunt the viewers:

"The real Aileen Wuornos is not a serial killer. I was so lost that I turned into one."

According to reports, Aileen Wuornos remained on death row at Broward Correctional Institute under the Florida Department of Corrections for six years. Her execution later took place at the Florida State Prison on October 9, 2002, by means of lethal injection, and as sources tell, Aileen died precisely at 9:47 a.m.

Aileen Wuornos' story still lingers amongst the masses, leaving a disturbing effect, and before Netflix's Queen of the Serial Killers, the case had been revisited quite a few times. One of the instances is the 2003 feature film Monster, where Charlize Theron portrayed the role of the infamous serial killer, and the 50-year-old star even won the Academy Award for her performance.
