Following their release from prison, Julie and Todd Chrisley are talking about their plans for the future, as they try to balance their family life along with new business endeavors and their return to their native South Carolina. The reality TV stars, best known for their work in Chrisley Knows Best, stated that production work on their next projects is one thing that is stopping them from going back to SC.
Todd said:
“When are we going back to South Carolina? I think that’s going to depend on how things fall with production and other projects that we’re working on right now."
The Chrisley couple received a combined 19-year sentence in November 2022 after being found guilty of committing tax evasion, bank fraud, and other offenses. In January 2023, they reported to federal prison, where Julie was spending time in Kentucky, and Todd Chrisley was serving time in Florida. On May 27, 2025, President Donald Trump suddenly granted the Chrisleys full pardons after they had served more than two years in prison.
After being released, they relocated to Nashville to live with their 27-year-old daughter, Savannah. Although the change has been difficult, it has also given them the opportunity to start again. Julie explained that it was exhilarating to be able to "breathe again" after returning home.
Todd Chrisley, who is now 57, has been vocal about going back to their native place in SC, told People magazine that it all depends on the current projects:
“When are we going back to South Carolina? I think that’s going to depend on how things fall with production and other projects that we’re working on right now."
Julie, who is 52, was present there as well and has settled in well and is absolutely in love with Nashville, added:
“So for me, I am absolutely loving where I live. I can walk to restaurants and coffee shops and a gazillion different gyms. I live a mile from my best friend Tyler. So we’ll meet up places.”
The Chrisleys initially stayed in the suburbs of Atlanta during the early seasons of their show before relocating to Brentwood, Tennessee.
Todd Chrisley replied to this by saying,
“That’s not always good.”
Julie again insisted:
"It is so much fun. I love it. I feel like I can finally breathe because I don’t have all the maintenance that I had. This is just a new start and a new beginning that I’m so excited about and grateful that I’m able to live.”
Todd Chrisley has not given up his intention of going back to South Carolina. He revealed his idea about purchasing a mansion and converting it into a hotel, and maybe turning the project into yet another reality show. He said in an ABC News Studios special that aired on GMA on June 30:
“You know, I think we will always have a presence in Nashville, but I have a pull for Julie and I to go back to South Carolina...to Charleston...to that area.
Todd Chrisley added:
“We have hopes of acquiring a hotel...a mansion...there, that we are gonna convert into a hotel, and we’re gonna create a show around that.”
Julie and Todd Chrisley's television comeback
The Chrisleys are all ready for their television comeback with The Chrisleys: Back to Reality, which will debut on Lifetime on September 1, 2025. It will follow life after being released from prison and the problems they face in restarting life - everything that will be shown on the TV show.
According to their daughter, Savannah, their new series, The Chrisleys: Back to Reality, will be different from the previous show, Chrisley Knows Best, which lasted for 10 seasons. Savannah told ABC News:
“We've said for 10 years that ‘Chrisley Knows Best’ was a scripted comedy. But this show, we peel back the layers. We break it down. You're gonna see the dysfunction. You're going to see the fight and the tears and everything we had to go through to get to today.”
Julie Chrisley spoke about the negative comments on the internet:
“The ones that I interact with that come up to me, they are lovely. The majority of the negative comments are not even really about us.”
Todd Chrisley replied to that, saying that their new show will support Trump's decision to pardon the couple:
“It's about who signed our pardon. Those are the people that have not dug into the case. And you're gonna see this come out in these eight episodes. But at the end the day, I don't live my life for those people that think I'm guilty. I know what I’ve done.”
Catch Julie and Todd Chrisley make their way back to reality TV as they balance life and work on their new series, which premieres on Lifetime at 8 PM ET.
