Damien Leone's 'Art the Clown' is back as the horror classic threequel Terrifier 3 is set to return to theatres this Christmas. The 2024 slasher has got the tag of the highest-grossing unrated film in the history of box office earning $75.5 million worldwide and has also topped the video-on-demand charts.
Terrifier 3 is a Phil Falcone production starring David Howard Thornton (Art the Clown), Lauren LaVera, Samantha Scaffidi, and Elliot Fullam. The movie had its premiere at Fantastic Fest in September 2024 and was later screened across the United States right before the Halloween season.
The story is a continuation of Terrfier 2 as we see Art the Clown returning to his killing spree with Sienna trying to hunt down the evil clown. Here is a look at the official synopsis of Terrifier 3:
"After surviving Art the Clown's Halloween massacre, Sienna and her brother are struggling to rebuild their shattered lives. When is Terrifier 3 returning to theatres?
Terrifier 3 is returning to select theatres on December 24 and 25, 2024 via Iconic Events Releasing and excitement among fans is brewing as the holiday season approaches. Cineverse Chief Creative Officer Yolanda Macias has reportedly said in a press release statement on Wednesday:
"We couldn’t be happier with Terrifier 3′s positive reception by existing and new fans alike, and we couldn’t think of a better way to ring in the holidays than to bring Damien’s masterpiece back to theaters as a gift to these fans.I can’t wait to celebrate both the season (and Terrifier 3 being the top non-rated movie in U.S. history!) on December 24."
Cineverse studio has further confirmed that the limited theatrical screening will also serve as a special introduction from writer and director Damien Leone. It will also leave glimpses of Screambox's upcoming documentary Art Attack.
According to Cineverse, the documentary will showcase behind-the-scene moments of Terrifier 3's production. It will reportedly have its streaming debut in 2025 though the exact dates have not been confirmed yet.
Is Terrifier 3 a box-office hit?
As per reports, Terrifier 3 has achieved a domestic earning of nearly $54 million and a total of $75.5 million worldwide. Even on the VOD charts, the franchise's threequel has got the top spot.
Compared to a $2 million budget, the box-office numbers of Terrifier 3 are quite good - all the more reason to be a holiday hit! Moreover, the film got a 77% 'fresh' review based on 119 reviews by the Rotten Tomatoes critics. As per the RT Critics Consensus:
"Taking an axe to yuletide cheer and everything else in its path, Terrifier 3 is a bloody fantastic stocking stuffer for the holiday season."
