Superman is out in the air, and his cousin, Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl, will follow soon. Milly Alcock will be portraying the character in the second film of James Gunn's new DC universe, which is directed by Cruella (2021) director Craig Gillespie.

Currently, the movie is set for a release on June 26, 2026, as was announced last year. Now we also have a date for its official trailer, which is this Thursday, December 11, as noted by World of Reels. James Gunn also teased this earlier on Instagram with a clip of Milly Alcock sitting and watching a ship land. However, he didn't mention the date in that post.

The movie will be a part of the new DCU's Chapter One: Gods and Monsters, which includes eleven films as of this writing, including the Superman sequel Man of Tomorrow, The Authority, The Brave and the Bold, and more.

What will Supergirl be about?

The hot premise here is that she will be celebrating her 21st birthday and continuing her planet-hopping. However, this will soon become, as Variety notes, "a murderous quest for revenge" following her friendship with Ruthye Marye Knoll, a character Eve Ridley is portraying.

She is a different character from her cousin Superman, who usually goes by more ethical standards. Though that was more of Henry Cavill's version than David Corenswet's, who portrayed a bit less serious version of the superhero. His cousin likes to party a lot, unlike him.

Alcock's character also appeared briefly in Superman, arriving drunk and looking for Krypto the Superdog, which also served as her character's official introduction in Gunn's DCU.

Following Supergirl, two more films are set to be released in the Gods and Monsters saga: Clayface on September 11, 2026, and Man of Tomorrow on July 9, 2027. The former is a body horror film that James Watkins will direct, while James Gunn will return for the latter.

Though it is a possibility that Milly Alcock's character will appear in Man of Tomorrow, too, given her cameo in Superman. However, we can't say until more details about the films make their way into the public.

Considering this, Superman's cameo appearance in Supergirl might be a fun addition to the story. Maybe this time he'll be taking Krypto back.

Who will appear in Supergirl?

The full cast of the film will only be revealed following its release, so we know only a few names attached to the project other than Milly Alcock.

Matthias Schoenaerts of The Drop (2014) will play Krem of the Yellow Hills, a villain appearing in the Tom King and Bilquis Evely miniseries, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, which also serves as the source material for the movie. He kills Ruthye's father in the story and also shoots Krypto.

Emily Beecham and David Krumholtz will also appear in Supergirl as her parents, Alura In-Ze and Zor-El, respectively. Ferdinand Kingsley will portray Ruthye's father, Elias Knoll.

Additionally, Jason Momoa will also be set for a cameo on the DC film, this time as the antihero Lobo. Before this, he played the whiskey-loving superhero Aquaman in the DC universe. Other than him, Wil Coban and Alice Hewkin will play Brute and Sklarian, respectively, according to the current listings at IMDb.
