American Pie 2 was released in the US theaters on August 10, 2001, by Universal Pictures.

The s*x comedy film is written by Adam Herz, from a story he co-wrote with David H. Steinberg, based on his days growing up as a teenager in Michigan. It was directed by James B. Rogers.

The film's plot synopsis, as per Rotten Tomatoes, reads:

"After a year apart - attending different schools, meeting different people - the guys rent a beach house and vow to make this the best summer ever. As it turns out, whether that will happen or not has a lot to do with the girls."

It continues:

"Between the wild parties, outrageous revelations, and yes, a trip to band camp, they discover that times change and people change, but in the end, it's all about sticking together.

Let's see where this R-rated comedy was shot.

Where was American Pie 2 shot? Details explored

Mark Irwin was the cinematographer, while Richard Toyon was the production designer on this movie. The film was shot in locations in the state of California.

1) Los Angeles, California

James B. Rogers's movie is set in Michigan, but it was shot in various places in and around Los Angeles, according to reports from MovieLocations and SetJetter.

The outlets also suggest that these LA locations doubled up for the real places in Michigan. So, the house that Jim Levenstein (Jason Biggs) lives in is Levenstein's actual house from Long Beach. Michelle's (Alyson Hannigan) house was near Cedar Avenue, whereas Kevin Meyers' (Thomas Ian Nicholas) house was in Pasadena.

The film also used some locations only for their exterior shots, while the interiors were reportedly designed on a set. That is how the UCLA (University of California, Los Angeles) college entrance and the Caffe Opera in Monrovia were used in the movie. Similarly, the City Hall in Pasadena doubled up for a location in Spain.

Paradise Cove in Malibu was used as a location to shoot a fictional resort, while the band camp amphitheater in Altadena was used for the band's performance in the movie. Some local houses and Long Beach were used to shoot some of its exterior scenes.
