Bring Her Back shows the return of Danny Philippou and Michael Philippou, the South Australian filmmaking duo behind the 2022 smash hit horror film, Talk To Me. With this breakthrough project, they joined filmmakers like Ari Aster, Jordan Peele, Robert Eggers, and more to earn acclaim in the horror genre. Talk To Me became A24's most successful horror project, so the duo was expected to pursue its follow-up project. However, despite a few ideas about the sequel, they decided to work on another project instead.

Bring Her Back shows them dealing again with the concept of grief and how it manifests in people who have lost their loved ones. Going by the reviews, it is a deeply unsettling affair that will wretch your heart like Talk To Me did in 2022. This time, the brothers are working with two-time Oscar nominee Sally Hawkins, who plays a terrifying foster mother.

Once again, the duo is joined by A24 studios, handling the film's distribution in the United States. Much like their previous film, their latest film is also shot in Australia and the filming took place in Adelaide and Lightsview.

Filming in Adelaide and Lightsview

The story of Bring Her Back takes place mainly in an isolated home. So, the film was shot mainly in the interiors. Still, the brothers decided to shoot this film in their hometown in Adelaide for a creative reason. In a July 2024 interview with IF Magazine, they mentioned how important it was for them to work with the local crew and how it informed their filmmaking choices.

“We love that we get to be in Adelaide to make our next film, we feel so at home here – it’s where we feel most comfortable and inspired, and we want to be making movies here for a long time.”

Later in July 2024, they were spotted in the Lightsview suburb in Adelaide for the film's production. Reports suggest that the principal photography began in June 2024 and lasted for about 41 days.

The duo's familiarity with the neighborhood allowed them to understand how to use it to portray the rich psychological subtext in Bring Her Back. Adelaide offers an ideal mix of natural and urban / semi-urban ethos. It helped portray the grief of their central characters along with its heightened scares, whether during indoor or outdoor shoots.

Causeway Films produced Bring Her Back along with the Philippou brothers' RackaRacka. SAFC (South Australian Film Corporation) backed its financing reportedly with Salmira Productions.

Andrea Michaels, South Australia’s State Minister for the Arts, said:

“It’s fantastic to welcome Danny and Michael back to Adelaide to shoot their second film. These two are enormously talented and a credit to South Australia. ‘Talk to Me’ has been a huge success globally, and I can’t wait to see Bring Her Back get underway and showcase South Australia to the world."

Kate Croser, the CEO of SAFC also spoke with IF Magazine about the directing duo and their creative output:

“Talk to Me, which was filmed in Adelaide with funding from both the SAFC and Adelaide Film Festival, has firmly established the Philippou brothers as two of the brightest and most exciting rising screen industry stars anywhere in the world, and with them a host of incredibly talented South Australian creatives and crew. We are delighted to support Bring Her Back, which will once again showcase South Australian screen industry talent, locations, and capability on an international stage.”
