Honey Don’t! is a dark comedy detective film with strong neo-noir elements. Unlike his past collaborations, Ethan Coen takes the director’s chair solo this time, working from a script he co-wrote with Tricia Cooke. The film had its world premiere in the Midnight Screenings section at this year’s Cannes Film Festival before Focus Features released it theatrically in the United States on August 22, 2025. According to Letterboxd, its official synopsis reads:
Honey O’Donahue, a small-town private investigator, delves into a series of strange deaths tied to a mysterious church.

The film is a part of Coen and Tricia Cooke's trilogy that is labelled as a "lesbian B-movie". The first in the series was the 2024 crime comedy road film Drive-Away Dolls.
In an EW interview, Coen spoke about writing the film with Cooke.
"It was just a fun thing to write....we had to call it a trilogy because who does two of anything? You gotta at least promise a third one."
Cooke said,
"I was interested in making these genre movies through a queer lens that highlighted lesbian characters in particular, just because there aren't many. It seemed like there was a gap that needed to be filled."
Coen then quipped,
"Having written the first one, we said, 'Let's do something different.'"
The duo is also working on the third film, which is currently titled Go, Beavers!, and it will be in a different genre compared to the first two installments. Cooke spoke about the same,
"It's a story about a lesbian crew team coming together for their 10th year college reunion and kind of traveling down the river of life, what they experience."
