More details on Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner's investigation following the arrest of Nick Reiner
After treating the case as an apparent homicide, the detective reportedly launched a search warrant within hours of discovering the bodies of Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner and arrested Nick Reiner.
The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) has launched a thorough investigation into the incident. Los Angeles Police Chief Jim McDonnell made a statement regarding the incident in the press on December 15. He said:
“We have our Robbery Homicide division handling the investigation. They worked throughout the night on this case and were able to take into custody Nick Reiner, a suspect in this case. He was subsequently booked for murder and is being held on $4 million bail.”

L.A. County District Attorney Nathan Hochman told ABC News in a statement:
“They make sure that you get the search warrant ahead of time because they don't want to have any problems later in the case if there's some allegation that they illegally got the evidence at the get-go of an investigation.”
Nick Reiner is the middle child of Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner. He was born in 1993 alongside his siblings, Jake Reiner (1991) and his younger sister, Romy (1997).
He has been vocal about his drug abuse problems in the past in multiple interviews and podcasts. During a 2018 podcast appearance, Nick Reiner confirmed that he destroyed his family’s guest house when his parents delivered an ultimatum that he must leave the property. He said:
“I started with the TV and then I went over to the lamp and then [progressively], just everything in the guest house got wrecked.”
He further revealed suffering a cocaine-induced heart attack on a plane. He passed out mid-flight and woke up in a Boston hospital. He then entered detox in Maine, but later relapsed due to homesickness and a desire to resume substance use.
Reiner worked with his father, Rob Reiner, on a semi-autobiographical film titled Being Charlie, which was based on addiction and recovery. While Rob directed, Nick co-wrote the film.
