A father-son duo will soon be seen in a standoff against the police in Sovereign, which is due to release on July 11, 2025, on the same day as Superman, Skillhouse, and Madea's Destination Wedding. Nick Offerman and Jacob Tremblay are playing the father-son duo, Jerry Kane and Joe Kane, respectively. Dennis Quaid, Nancy Travis, Martha Plimpton, and more are also in the film.

The film is based on true events that happened on May 10, 2010, when a couple of suspects were killed by the police during a traffic stop. Both were later revealed to be associated with an anti-government movement.

Its filming majorly took place in Arkansas, which has been featured in movies like Matthew McConaughey's Mud (2012), Joaquin Phoenix's Walk the Line (2005), and Dennis Quaid's Great Balls of Fire! (1989), and more. We will now see what regions were used for the filming of this movie.

The second-most populous city in Arkansas was the first filming location for Sovereign. There's another city of the same name in Tennessee, which is where the settlers came from, thus the name.

Fayetteville was featured in Season 3 of True Detective. The first season of the crime drama anthology is still considered one of the best seasons ever made. Multiple Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movies, including Black Panther (2018), Avengers: Endgame (2019), Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021), and more, used this as one of their filming locations.

Another filming location where Sovereign was shot includes Lincoln, a part of the Northwest Arkansas metropolitan region. It's just around 25 miles southwest of Fayetteville. The place is home to Lincoln Lake, which is a protected park spanning 400 acres.

This also served as one of the locations for True Detective. An episode titled "Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye" was shot here. Other projects that were shot at the location include Christmas (2020), Chimp (2020), and West of Memphis (2012). Interestingly, the true events on which Sovereign is based happened in Memphis.

Springdale serves as the final location of the Nick Offerman film and is the fourth most populous city in Arkansas. The 45th governor of the state, Mike Beebe, recognized the region as "The Poultry Capital of the World." The place is close to Fayetteville, and hence, it has a similar climate.

Again, this was one of the locations used for True Detective, specifically in episodes including "The Hour" and "Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye." John Malkovich's Mindcage (2022), Neal McDonough's Greater (2016), and more were also shot here.

What is Sovereign about?

youtube-cover

There's a mystery in the story. You can notice it in the trailer that was dropped a few days ago by Briarcliff Entertainment on YouTube. Its description reads,

"Inspired by true events, SOVEREIGN is a tense and provocative true crime thriller about a father and his teenage son — Jerry and Joseph Kane (Nick Offerman and Jacob Tremblay) — who follow the Sovereign Citizen belief system, a deeply anti-establishment worldview rooted in distrust of government authority."

Dennis Quaid plays John Bouchart, who we can see investigating the case in the trailer.
