The latest release from Paul Greengrass, The Lost Bus, which stars Matthew McConaughey as the lead character, Kevin McKay, based on a real person, is making waves on the internet. And suddenly, we are reminded of the devastating 2018 wildfire that still stirs uneasiness among the people.

It is based on an event while the wildfire was taking over the area, and 22 children were stuck in a school as their parents hadn't arrived to pick them up at the time. And then the fire began, which made it impossible afterwards. Thankfully, Kevin answered a distress call, picked them up, and braved a fiery 30-mile journey to put those children to safety.

All of this happened in California, but the film wasn't filmed there. It was shot in various regions in New Mexico, including Ruidoso, Española, and more. We will now see all the places that were featured in The Lost Bus, now.

Ruidoso, New Mexico

The first location featured in The Lost Bus in this list is a New Mexico village called Ruidoso, a term that also means "noisy" in Spanish. Like Paradise, this place had gone through a devastating natural calamity in 2008, when there was a flash flood. 900 people were rescued during this event.

Not many films or TV series have been shot here, but some that feature the location include Don't Blink (2014), Wicked Lake (2008), The Life and Times of Grizzly Adams (1974), and more.

Truchas, New Mexico

Truchas lies in a New Mexico county called Rio Arriba County and is a census-designated place. In Spanish, "truchas" means "trout." It's more like a community, and the name derives from a nearby river providing water for irrigation.

Some films shot in this region include Pocket Money (1972), Red Sky at Morning (1971), Spoken Word (2009), and more.

Glorieta, New Mexico

Glorieta serves as another location featured in The Lost Bus and was once the site for a couple of battles in New Mexico, the Capture of Santa Fe and the Battle of Glorieta Pass. The former happened from August 8, 1846, to August 14, 1846, and the latter between March 26, 1862, and March 28, 1862.

Besides the Paul Greengrass film, Brothers (2009), starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Tobey Maguire, Natalie Portman, and more, features the region.

Española, New Mexico

Like Truchas, Española is also a part of Rio Arriba County. It was once called the first capital city in the United States and serves as a home to the public college dubbed Northern New Mexico College.

TV series, including Dark Winds (2022 to present) and The Curse (2023 to 2024), feature this location. In movies, the Academy Award-nominated Crazy Heart (2009) was shot here.

Santa Fe, New Mexico

The final location on The Lost Bus list is Santa Fe, the capital of New Mexico. It has a rich history and houses over 87k people according to the latest census.

Movie-wise, the capital city is featured in several popular movies, including Oppenheimer (2023), No Country for Old Men (2007), Terminator 2: Judgement Day (1991), The Magnificent Seven (2016), Thor (2011), and more.
