Luke’s bike stunts were filmed in Glenville, while Plymouth Avenue and State Street served as the backdrop for house hideouts and high-stakes robberies. The 1st National Bank of Scotia and Trustco Bank were used for Luke’s heists, and Vale Cemetery featured in a tense chase.

The movie even captured quiet emotional moments at Dairy Circus in Scotia and along County Road 51, the symbolic “place beyond the pines.” Locals acted as extras, and many working spaces, like Ellis Hospital and Schenectady’s police station, were used as-is, blending the fictional story with the real pulse of the town.

The Place Beyond the Pines tells the story of two men, Luke and Avery. Gosling plays Luke, a motorcycle stuntman who learns that he is the father of his ex-girlfriend Romina Gutierrez's son. Although Romina is now with someone else, he still decides to maintain a close bond with what he sees as his family.

Desperate to provide, he turns to bank robbing from the seat of his bike, realizing a childhood fantasy of Gosling’s himself, captured in long, gritty takes that feel more documentary than Hollywood thriller.

Then the focus shifts to Bradley Cooper’s Avery, the cop who kills Luke and soon grapples with guilt, corruption, and the emotional fallout of his actions.
