Benedict Cumberbatch came up with his third film of the year, called The Roses, a remake of the satirical black comedy The War of the Roses, released in 1989. He plays Theo Rose opposite Olivia Colman's Ivy Rose, who is his wife in the film. While it's fun, it still fails to meet the bar the 1989 movie set and only holds a 65% score at Rotten Tomatoes as of this writing. The original one holds 83% there.

It's not just the stars and the food people throw in there that's just refreshing, but the locations used in the film, too. Even if the film is deemed average by the critics, the scenic shots are simply food for the soul in there. A majority of the film was shot in Devon, a ceremonial county in South West England, and now we will see which regions were used here to shoot The Roses.

Interestingly, the film is the latest addition to an economic boom in the South West, all thanks to the recent projects being shot there.

The Roses filming locations

While Devon is where the majority of the film was shot, it is Salcombe that was used for a lion's share of the filming in Devon. This is a perfect place with the views of a sweeping sea that one can look at for hours. Though not in the film, as The Roses’ runtime is just an hour and forty-five minutes.

One of the Salcombe locations featured in the movie is The Winking Prawn at North Sands Beach, and it is considered to be a popular restaurant among the local community there.

There's also the Cliff Road in Salcombe, and you can see it in the film's trailer, giving us those panoramic views. There are a number of holiday homes if you are thinking of visiting it. It comes with nature's guarantee to take away all your stress as soon as you wake up in the morning to witness the beauty.

Not a lot of movies or TV shows have been shot here, but some of them, according to IMDb, include A Horseman Riding By, Brandy for the Parson, Lifeboat, and more.

Though Ivy and Theo's home is set up in Northern California, it is actually in Combe Martin in Devon. As you will see in the film, their home is resting on a cliff, which is like a dream home, which you can also get if you become successful like Ivy and Theo in the film. Or, like Tony Stark, then you can have a home like his on Malibu Beach, California.

Ascot, Berkshire

Berkshire's Ascot was used partly for The Roses, too, and it's featured in that scene where Ivy and Theo are with their lawyers, and the former one delivers this dialogue:

"We want everything, and he walks out of here with his face still attached. Right, Bruno?"

Such a strong delivery. You can also see this in the film's trailer.
